Yo! I'm creating an OC for a newly started RP, and I'm terrible with names and I could use some help ^^'

 

Here's some info about the character, She's a zebra and a mechanic (I know it's kind of odd). Personality wise she's hard to befriend, Confident in herself, doesn't like trusting others, takes her work seriously (hardworking) and she will motivate others to do things in a very "pushy" manner. (If someone needs to make a run for something but they're hesitating she'll be screaming "GO GO GO" pushing/ dragging them with her.)

 

I'd like her to have a full name, but she should be called by some sort of nickname or initials. Her name doesn't have to be a zebra name, she has grown up with ponies, zebras and tons of other species as well so her name can be heavily influenced by that.

I think a good nickname for her might be Substation: : Facility equipment that switches, changes, or regulates electric voltage.  Or a shoot to Tinderbox might fix given she works with machines and she can be pushy and set off like a tinder is to a pile of wood or such examples.

There are a few ways of choosing a name, but the advice I normally give is to write down the aspects of the character's personality and then choose two that fit together well. Even if this isn't the final name, it gets the ball rolling, and it helps you think about her character.

 

 

That said, looking for words and names associated with their field of work can also be helpful. In this case, glancing through Wikipedia's locomotive page, the name 'Salamanca' jumped out at me as it shortens to 'Sally', which sounds like a name a no-nonsense mechanic might like. 'Acetylene' shortens to 'Ace' too, although both of these longer names are a touch... eccentric, to say the least. That could be used as a character point though (she doesn't tell many people, or like being called by, her full name.)
