Theory on CutieMarks

Something just came to me that I've yet to see discussed since the Season 5 finale: 

 

I noticed that all of our Mane 6 ponies received their cutiemarks because of the Sonic Rainboom which tied their fates together to become friends in the future. However, after Starlight stopped the Rainboom, it pretty much messes up the future because they never become friends. BUT.....it seems they still receive the same cutiemarks. Why? And how? 

 

In all honesty, I always figured cutiemarks were determined by one's journey to get them and how they grow to discover their own purpose in life. But is it possible that you're destined to receive a certain cutiemark NO MATTER the experiences you have? I'm sure in each alternate future, experiences weren't the same....but in a way, they themselves were still different. Despite this, they still possessed the same cutiemark. 

 

 

Does that mean despite the Rainboom never happening, the events in how they received their cutiemark still happened but at a much later date? Somehow Fluttershy still fell down and was caught by butterflies to meet the animals? Applejack later discovered she was to be back home? Rarity....somehow...eventually found jewels? And Pinkie saw something else spectacular to want to become a party pony and make ponies smile? And what of Rainbowdash? She had to have created the Rainboom at some point to receive her cutiemark right (we never saw her cutiemark within the episode, but given the fact most of the others still had their cutiemarks, I would assume RD still had hers)

 

If it's true that you're destined for a cutiemark no matter the experiences, does that mean the Cutiemark crusaders would have received the cutiemarks they have now? Even if they weren't best friends?

 

What are your thoughts on this?

Well to be fair, I really DON'T like the CMC cutie marks because...y'see, the CMC did look better as Blank Flanks instead of disbanding because of their Cutie Marks...But because of that, they WILL have to disband soon...badly.

Yeah... poorly defined time travel mechanics always screw with cannon.

 

I believe the cutie mark destiny system is absolute. Or in other words, it's predetermined. So all you need to do is have an epiphany where you realize and or demonstrate your aptitude, and it's unlocked. According to the finale, surrounding circumstances are irrelevant.

 

In the case of the CMC, I'd wager they had individual cutie marks planned. They all obviously have their own unique thing. I suspect the writers decided to instead give them a combined cutie mark as an excuse for them to maintain the whole crusading theme.

Agreeing with these. I mean....honestly I know no other explanation. Perhaps it's me thinking too hard on cutiemark logic and the theory in getting them....since it's not concrete throughout the series and especially the finale.

The 3 episodes with the most about Cutie Marks are Cutie Mark Chronicles (S1E23), Cutie Pox (S1), & Magical Mystery Cure (S1 E13).  In the other 2, magic affects Cutie Marks, but in the Chronicles it seems like you get your Mark because

1) You find what you like the best & 2) You admit it to yourself (IMO, this is what delayed the Crusaders)

 

IMO, the Rainboom would affect the timing, but it wouldn't change your basic personality.  Thus, they got the same mark at a later time.  BUT, although it wouldn't change your mark, it might change your life.

 

For example, Twilight might or might not have gotten into Celestia's school (maybe her written work would have carried her) but she certainly wouldn't have been Celestia's prize pupil.  Rarity would have finished the costumes, but without those gems, they would have been OK, but NOT excellent.  Would she have stayed in fashion or said "I'll never be a top fashionista  & I won't settle for less" ?  Perhaps she became an actress, or a singer? (She does lead the Ponytones)   The same for the others
