jamesbrautigan 0 March 17, 2016 Share March 17, 2016 Hello everyone who can help. I suppose I won't be coming on here too ften. I'm nearly 40 years old! But my 4 year old daughter has recently started getting into MLP. As a result she is bugging me to get startedwith collecting the figures. For her birthday I have just bought her The Pony Princess Wedding Castle. She also likes Apple Jack, Pinkie Pie etc. However I noticed when browsingamazon, ebay etc that there are all types of different sizes and versions of figures. How am i supposed to know which figures go with which sets? I would like to buy her some other figures to go with the Wedding castle but I want to make sure the scale is right - I don't want Cadence to be dwarfed by Alle Blossom for example. Is there any method to the MLP marketing madness. Please help a dad!!!!

Is there any method to the MLP marketing madness. Please help a dad!!!! As someone who left 40 behind many years ago, I'll try to help. The main problem is there are many different companies making MLP figures under license, and even Hasbro itself has several different 'lines' of toys each under a different scale. For the official Hasbro toys there are three main lines: the regular 'Playful Pony' line which includes the Pony Princess Wedding Castle you've already got, the 'Fashion Pony' line which is quite a bit larger to make the accessories more manageable for small hands, and the smaller 'Minifigure' line which includes what's known as 'blindbags' and collection sets. Here's a reasonable wiki article that is listing most of the toys in the Playful Pony line. Everything in this line should be reasonably within the same scale. You'll see your Wedding Castle set under the 'Story Pack' heading. As a warning note, this is a wiki which means it's being maintained by the public and might have incorrect information in it at any time. http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Playful_Ponies
jamesbrautigan 0 March 17, 2016 Author Share March 17, 2016 Ah! Thanks very much. I had no idea. Is it stated on the packaging which series particular products belong to? If so then I'll just look out for playful pony figures. I also noticed that a lot of stuff seems to be limited availability and/or edition. Is that standard practice with MLP products. I see that unwittingly (or thanks to my daughter) I appear to be getting drawn into MLP world!!! Thanks again.
Concerned Bystander 2,903 March 17, 2016 Share March 17, 2016 I see that unwittingly (or thanks to my daughter) I appear to be getting drawn into MLP world!!! Thanks again. You wouldn't be the only one. My first exposure to it was looking for episodes for my daughter to watch on Youtube. I ended up hooked on it myself. I have more pony toys (did I say toys, I meant action figures) than she has, juxtaposed with toys from Star wars, Transformers, Aliens, Terminator and so many more on my altar of geekdom

I see that unwittingly (or thanks to my daughter) I appear to be getting drawn into MLP world!!! Thanks again. There are a number of items that were specially made or specific events, like Comicon and Toy Fair. Those really are limited and you should probably avoid them if you're buying for actual playing with. The limited edition versions were really made for the collector market, and can go for way more than they're worth as toys. They'll tend to overwhelm the search in ebay and the like, because again, they were made for the collector market. To be honest, I don't think 'Playful Pony' is marked on any of the packages as that one is normally considered the default, but I could be wrong. I don't have any on hand right now to check. Fashion ponies are definitely marked, and minifigs are pretty obvious as they're fully molded where the other two have brushable manes. Usually. There's always weird-one-out exceptions, and several 'specials' that don't fit in the three primary lines. Which is why if you doubt, go to the wiki and check. If you're dealing with buying them in person, you'll get used to recognizing the three sizes pretty quick now that you know that they generally fall into the three sizes. ManeStay 236 March 21, 2016 Share March 21, 2016 I believe the castle is designed to fit in with the line-up commonly referred to as "brushables," because of the manes and tails. These are common to find in most stores and are usually easily identifiable. They stand about 3-4 inches tall and have brushable manes as they name implies. Here are some examples from Amazon: Applejack: http://www.amazon.com/My-Little-Pony-Applejack-Figure/dp/B00ND009YQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1458522337&sr=1-3&keywords=My+Little+Pony+Applejack Twilight Sparkle: http://www.amazon.com/My-Little-Pony-Princess-Twilight/dp/B00ND007KM/ref=pd_sim_21_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=5142cTjh6xL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=022KRXH74SDHG6H4F5BP Of course you can always ask your daughter which ones she prefers too.
Leave a Whisper 703 April 20, 2016 Share April 20, 2016 Very simple, buy her what she likes. What are her favorite colors? Is she interested in the ocean or animals? That can help you determine what ones to get. Does she like unicorns or pegasus?
