Atropa smiled back, feeling dizzy and lightheaded.

"Jake?"

She whispered, looking at him and pulling him close.

"I- I l-lo-"

She didn't get to finish because just then, Skyler walked in.

Jake was concerned, she looked rather dizzy. When she pulled him close his heart beat faster. As she began to speak he couldn't help but stare into her beautiful eyes. But the moment was cut short as he heard another approach, he looked back to see a troubled looking Skyler at the front of the cell

Skyler smiled sadly and waved to Atropa.

She stood up and walked to him, where they had a hurried argument.

"Sky. Why won't you stick up for me?"

"I- mom knows I did something bad."

"So? What is it?"

"I... I put a kid in my school into a coma. But I told everyone it was an accident. It wasn't. He was a bully, and I got tired of it."

"So? Mom can't prove shit."

"She can, actually. She had me write it down and sign it."

"Wh-what? Why?"

"To use it against me some day.."

"Fine. I... I guess you have nothing more to say to me then."

Atropa turned away and walked back to Jake.

"Atropa.." Skyler said sadly, and left.

Atropa burst into tears.

"I don't care if they take me to jail! There's no reason to give a shit!"

She curled up into a ball and cried.

Jake sat next to Atropa, laying a hand comfortingly on her, a saddened look in his eyes. "Atropa... don't say that... I'm not gonna let you go like that... you need to be strong, know that we can get through this. Please Atropa... I don't want to see you like this."

Atropa swatted his hand away.

"Just leave me alone, Jake. It's better if you leave me alone anyway."

She sat up and moved to the other side of the room, leaving Jake alone.

Jake was hurt when she swatted his hand away, but when she said to leave him alone, he seemed to have gained more confidence. He stood up and walked over to her, "Sorry. But no." he said sternly. "Just why should I?"

Hayley blushed and smiled a little, "oh you flatter me too much Sasha!" The two walked to Hayley's mansion. The inside looked as it was something from a Disney movie, "sorry for everything being a little messy."

"Its, my place now...... My mother left it to me. Can you believe she actually had a last will?"

It hurt her to say this, but it was the way it had to be.

She killed Jake's father.

And his father had been the man that had hurt Atropa more than anyone her whole life.

Except maybe Brenden..

Atropa looked down, and gripped her hands tightly together.

Just tell her the god damn truth. Punching a kid. So what? And what do you care about her anyway? She doesn't care about you.

"Listen...Atropa...I didn't knock a kid out. And even if I did, I wouldn't care."

"I did something much worse. Something that'll put me into your position. And it's either you...or me."

"And you fucked up your side worse anyway. Look at you. You cut yourself, you let yourself get abused. You have no dreams and no ambition. You're just wasting away.You got nothing to live for. Nothing."

Listen to yourself. That's just kicking her when she's down. But what the hell. Why should you care?

"But I have goals. I want to go places. I want to get out of this rat infested neighborhood. I want to change the world. And if I help you I cant."

Skyler's emotions were flaring. He didn't care anymore.

It not like Atropa is your sister anyway. Siblings are supposed to love and help each other out. What the fuck does she do now? Nothing.

"If I help you what have I done? You can't go back to mum. You'll just crawl back to Brenden's. And guess what? He doesn't give a damn about you. You're gonna ruin your life."

"And I'm not about to let you ruin mine."

Skyler turned around. He began to make his way to the door.

After Skyler's no emotion confession, Atropa was left quiet and alone.

Jake was there, but Atropa felt nothing

and saw no one.

Her heart was breaking.

She thought she could always count on her brother at least.

But apparently not.

Jake approached the bars as he glared at Skyler. "How... how can you SAY that?!?!" he was getting angry, "Atropa needs your help! All this time you've wanted nothing but to help her, and now when she needs you most you turn away?! How can you call yourself a brother!? Am I the only one here for her? She needs you Skyler! What is so possibly bad that you have to hurt her like this?!"

Atropa grabbed Jake's shoulders and tried to pull him away.

"Shh. It's fine.."

She looked up at him with big, sad eyes.

Her heart hurt.

 

A police officer came by and asked to speak to Atropa.

He took her to a small room to question her about what had happened.

"I killed him. I killed my step father, and I don't care."

She whispered, looking down at the table.

The cop nodded, and took her back to the cell, where she sat down on the floor and stared at the wall.

"Don't worry, Jake. I told them I did it. I'll get what I deserve now."

Jakes eyes widened and he gripped Atropas shoulders, he almost looked scared for her. "No... Atropa no... dammit this isn't what you deserve! You deserve better than this Atropa! Please!" tears began to pour down his face. "If I didn't believe you deserved better than this I wouldn't be here right now... dammit Atropa I'm here doing my best to fight for you don't you see that? But right now it's me against everyone... I can't do it alone. But it doesn't mean I wont stop..." he continued to hold her as he looked into her eyes with his own, tears pouring freely and he didn't care.

Atropa avoided Jake's gaze.

It hurt too much to have someone care for her.

"I-I'm sorry. It has to be this way. It's better for everyone.."

Atropa tried to pull away from Jake, but she just didn't have the strength.

Her whole body hurt.

 

A police officer came by and opened the cell's door.

"Jake Akin? You're free to go. Someone paid your fine."

Atropa smiled sadly at Jake.

"Goodbye. Don't visit me."

She gave him one last kiss, and pulled away.

"And Atropa Lemont? You've got to follow me."

She was led away.

"You're wrong Atropa. This isn't better... for anybody." Said Jake as she was led away. The other police officers would not let him follow and he was led out of the building, albeit struggling the whole time saying he did not want to leave her. His mother was waiting outside for him, he walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her as he cried into her shoulder. His mother quietly comforted him, a tear leaving her eye as she saw how hurt her son was. He told his mother he would return home later... he needed time alone. When she left he sat on the steps, burying his face in his hands as he thought of what he could do to show Atropa this wasn't the way to go.

Atropa was led away for questioning, but she just kept silent.

She'd confessed, and that's all she could do for now.

After an hour or more of that, they got tired and led her to her cell.

She sat on her "bed" if you could call it that, and looked at the floor.

Her thoughts were lost on things that had happened in the past.

Maybe it really would be better in here.

At least no one could hurt her without getting in trouble.

So she hoped.

Jake decided, no matter what she said, this wasn't better. He called his mom, "Mom, I'm not gonna be home tonight" he said. He walked back in and walked to her cell. She wasn't looking so he coughed quietly to get her attention.

Atropa jumped at the sound of coughing.

She looked up and sighed.

"Jake.. Please.. Just go away.."

She couldn't take much more of this.

"What do you want?"

She stood up and walked to the bars, careful not to grab onto where his hands were.

"I want you to realize you're making a huge mistake. This isn't what you want. This isn't even close to what you deserve. I want you to see that you have the chance to change... and that chance is right in front of you. Atropa, you may not know why... you may not even care... but I'm gonna be there for you. Because when nobody else will give you a reason to believe there is something better, I want to be there to be that reason. And you know... I'm super stubborn and won't really listen to anybody, I'm sure you've figured that out already."

Atropa laughed, with tears in her eyes.

"I know. But I did kill him. I did, and they won't believe anyone now that Skyler won't t-t-talk for me.."

She sighed.

"And.. You're gonna hate me after I tell you something about Greg.."

She bit her lip.

"G-Greg was your d-d-dad, Jake.."

She closed her eyes tightly.

Jake gave a confused look at Atropas confession. <My dad?>. He looked to the ground a moment trying to make sense of it, then he looked back at Atropa, bringing a hand through the bars to gently caress her cheek, "You know what? He may have brought me into this world, but he wasn't nor ever will be my father. He deserved to die Atropa, what happened does not change my feelings for you".

Atropa's eyes filled with tears.

Her heart felt like it was going to burst.

"T-Thank you.. You're so good to me.."

She held his hand against her cheek and smiled.

"Jake... I l-love you.."

Atropa blushed deeply and looked down, letting the tears fall onto her cheeks.

Jake smiled and gently wiped a tear away with a thumb. "I love you Atropa" he replied back as he looked at her, he leaned forward and kissed her forehead through the bars. "And don't worry, I'm not leaving here tonight. Im staying right here with you"

Atropa nodded, and sat down on the floor, closing her eyes.

She quickly fell asleep, still holding on to Jake's hand.
