The hidden "Flaws" or not so hidden, of the mane 6.

Recently, a drunken podcast and two hours later, my ring of MLP loving saps and I sobered up enough to listen to the cast and found it rather enthralling how deep it go.

 

It is well know the mane girls have character flaws. Dashie has a learning disability. Fluttershy clearly has anixity if not mental issues. Rarity is the element of generosity because is the is the epitome of vanity and truely only believes she can help others because she is so perfect.

 

But what about more subtle ones?

 

The core of sadness that effects every-single thing Pinkie pie does? Giving herself Rim-shots, the always mentioned party of one, having a solo party in her tiny camp out tent waiting for cider, the dopple ganger who always is around to cheer her on or put her down.

 

And AJ? (ok this one is going to piss off ALOT of people.) But it came up she might, as well as her kin, be inbred.

 

WOAH! Calm your manes, and just listen.

 

Gem, one of our casters, comes from deep Virginia. She is very thick in her drawl and has known others that can talk to you for an hour and not understand a single word. But as the show goes on, she is convinced there is something more to AJ and the Apple crew. The stubbornness they all show, might be showing the lack of the ability just to flat out UNDERSTAND the situation. The pure disdain her "family" the Oranges had for AJ's folks, you mount your cousin you might cause some rifts in the gene pool. This one is a bit rough and very offensive to consider, but she did bring up a few good points.

 

Twilights perfection mentality. The ala chip on the shoulder. We ranted at LENGTH about the SSTB spell she cast (finally managed to I mean...) at the end of season 3. I for one believed it was Celestia who raised her to Alicorn status as a "reward" much like Hercules becoming a full god after his 12 trials. Romeo however says no, in fact it was her INTENT to use the spell to super sailor moon up to stop the foes she couldnt stop without it.

 

Lesser ones caused by drunk humor.

 

Fluttershy a "Furry?" that sure is one way to "tame" a bear?

 

Rarity as best BI? Can't claim this one as ours, its Lily Pets from youtube, we all got a kick out of a 1/5 of vodka and his/her latest "Glass of water" video about this exact subject.

 

Long drawn out post short, is it these flaws that draw us to the girls? It would have been easy to make them the Sailor Scouts...well untill the 4 demons from the hell showed up (Thanks outer rim murdering physcos.....I LOVE YOU SETSUNA !!)

Unless you go the Hamilton route, where a character's backstory frames a conflict between themselves (embracing/distancing) or another, it isn't a trait ... so no narrative purpose exists with AJ being descended from familiar couples.
