Steel watched as the . . . angel flew away. Really that's what she was. His heart pounding like a piston he sighed deeply. "A date with Fluttershy." His ears shot up. "Wait a minute, a DATE WITH FLUTTERSHY!" Steel made a beeline for his house to shower off the sweat, brush his coat, shine his hooves, comb his mane, brush his teeth, preen his feathers, and decide what order he was gonna do all that it.

Steel arrived at his house and dashed through his prep. Now he was standing in front of his mirror just looking at himself in the mirror. To the outside view nothing was happening, but on the inside there was a mental wrangling of conflicting hopes, doubts, and emotions.

Fluttershy thinks you saved her and noes she wants a date, which was the plan and you never knew." the golden phoinex came in the room and landed on princes back. "Ahs that bird has a name! And a short temper" he said as it chirped. Prince trotted after him. "You need a shower soldier! Don't put clean clothes on a dirty pony!"

"I already took one before you got here, Sire. My apologies for insulting the royal pet. I was laboring under the suspicion that you were still mad about the water bucket thing this morning." Steel said as he brushed a preener through his wings. "And Fluttershy doesn't think I saved her, she saved me from the Hydra, THAT'S the truth!"

Prince grabbed a comb and starting combing his tail. "But she's thinks you were fighting it off & and she just helped you. It's called being a knight in shining armor." Prince used his magic to grab a rose, "Here!" he mumbled with the comb still in his mouth. "Do you know which restaurant you're going?" he mumbled again.

"Uhhhh I was thinking the Ponyville cafe. It's quiet and they have an outdoor section. But . . ." Steel thought for a moment. "I DO have a friend at a local restraint that could give us a picnic set up at the gazebo."

"Take her there!" he mumbled again still combing his tail. "Yiu may want to bring Amy" he tilting his head towards his Phoinex, "She does love animals, you know?" prince trotted becide steel, "Wings out?" he said waiting for steel to extend his wings so as Prince could groom them.

Steel complied. He did feel a bit odd getting groomed BY royalty but the Prince seemed fine with the informality. "Sure . . . I guess I could. Rather. Do you think Amy could 'just happen' to fly by a little bit into dinner? She wold love that surprise!"

Fluttershy went to her cottage and took a quick shower.

She flew around a few times to dry herself, and then combed her hair.

She put on a small puff of perfume and filed her hooves.

She didn't want to do too much.

 

Her heart was pounding loudly and she was feeling slightly dizzy.

She was too shy to do this!

But she couldn't back out now. That would be rude.

Oh, but what if Steel decided he didn't like her?

This was driving Fluttershy crazy.

Steel remembered the Prince's advice as he trotted up to Fluttershy's cottage. Steeling himself and taking in a huge breath, he wrapped on her door with his hoof.

Fluttershy jumped at the sound of a knock.

She opened the door slowly, and smiled widely at the image of Steel.

He was so handsome!

Fluttershy closed the door behind her and blushed at Steel.

"Y-you look nice.."

She smiled again, and giggled.

Steel coud tell Fluttershy was nervous, he felt more than a bit guilty, even if this was her suggestion. "Fluttershy, I don't want you to believe you owe me this or anything. If you don't want to do this, I'm perfectly fine with that." Steel stated with more confidence than his previous communications.

Steel began to panic. "No, no! That's not what I meant at all! I just didn't want you to go out with me if you were . . . scared of me." Steel finally admitted. To himself as much as her. He moved closed and took a bold move. "Please don't cry. I can't stand to see tears in those beautiful eyes!" He gently wiped the water from Fluttershy's face with his wing.

She grabbed his hoof in hers and nuzzled his face.

She was shocked by her boldness, but she really liked Steel.

She blushed and looked up at him.

"So-You wanna go to get some-something to eat?"

For a moment Steel was lost in time. She nuzzled him! He couldn't let this moment pass! Steel forced his brain to work again. "Oh yes! I have somewhere very special planned." Steel gently lead Fluttershy to the Ponyville gazebo. A simple picnic blanket sitting under the moonlit trees, a candle glowing between two spreads. "I hope this is all right." He said.

Fluttershy's face lit up with happiness and excitment.

"This is amazing.."

She whispered and smiled.

"Aw, look.. A baby raccoon!" Fluttershy walked over to it and nuzzled it. The mama came along a few minutes later.

A lot of small, cuddly animals came and gathered round to watch the scene.

Fluttershy smiled at them.

"I guess I just have a way with animals.. I hope you don't mind.."
