Critical Hit 69 May 18, 2012 Share May 18, 2012 I've got a game project I'm trying to start up, but the thing is, I need to have all the info in one place. So I've been thinking of starting a forum for the codenamed "Project Equinox". Do you think it's a good idea? I could have different subforums pertaining to Classes, Enemies, Plot, Sprites, Music, etc.... Also, I posted this on the Creative Resources forum because it's about a game project. Move it if need be. ALSO, A NOTE FOR MODS: THIS IS NOT ADVERTISING A FORUM, THIS IS A QUESTION. AND IF I DO MAKE THE FORUM, I'LL ONLY PUT LINKS TO IT ON MY SIGNATURE AND LOOKUP. I think that it would be a bad idea simply because I wouldn't imagine it would be too active and forums are naturally restrictive. If you wanted to have information in one place then you should make a simple website with said info on it. Make a trailer and then get it on EQD, then make a forum. Legit signature made by Shift. Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,529 May 18, 2012 Founder Share May 18, 2012 You could always use MLP Forums as your forum and take advantage of our entire userbase this way. The Creative Resources section will be your best friend. Chances are your project could gain much more traction this way than if you set up your own forum and tried to attract attention that way. By choosing to do everything you need here on MLP Forums, you'll be allowed to directly advertise it to our 3200+ members. To be perfectly blunt, good luck getting that kind of traffic to a fresh, new site (and if you do happen to get that kind of traffic, you'll need some serious hosting to keep it online). If your game project gains some serious traction, we could look into giving you a dedicated forum section for it, which you could use as a central hub for discussing it. Creating a custom information database for it (akin to our Roleplay Characters Database) is a possibility as well. If you need the flexibility of your own dedicated website, that's something I can help with and host for you as well. 3 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi

Bohtty 1,775 May 18, 2012 Share May 18, 2012 (edited) So? I fail to see the relevance. So it's not very effective yet? I've tried using it for several of my projects and it always becomes cluttered and disorganized. It's missing a lot of features, one being that you cant delete cards once you make them. No, I am referring to the fact that recent updates just slides off the end, I quickly run out of space on the screen for big projects, the way they have it organized makes it a task to find relevant "posts". It's much easier to be organized with something like dropbox and text files. Legit signature made by Shift.

Or just a physical journal, a decent pen and some slips of post-it for bookmarks. FORUM GODDAMMIT

Post it notes only work in an office, but since these are usually projects with groups from across the internet, it needs to be online. If its a personal project, I usually just use paper. Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,529 May 18, 2012 Founder Share May 18, 2012 Libertina and Bohtty, please don't turn this into a discussion over Trello. Critical Hit can give it a try and see if it works for him. If you want to debate Trello's merits, feel free to start a new topic in General Discussion for it, as you're starting to really deviate from the OP's purpose. 1 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi
Critical Hit 69 May 19, 2012 Author Share May 19, 2012 Hmm, after thinking about it, I've decided that it probably isn't a good idea to make a forum or anything like that until I have more of my ideas down. (lol I have more than I posted on the threads, I just keep forgetting to type it up.) Mkay, thanks for your input, and Feld0, when, and I mean WHEN, not if, the project really gains speed, I'll contact you about that subforum idea. Just saying. Yeah, I can see what your getting at. But, I mean, shouldn't he be worrying about getting the group and game made first and then getting a proper website made later? That's how I would do it. Like I said, I can see what your coming from. A professional website brings in the pros. CRUSH. KILL. DESTROY. SWAG. I've helped a few people with extremely basic computer knowledge set good-looking websites up that they can update themselves using the self-hosted version of WordPress. I would be more than happy to personally help a budding fan project establish a solid online presence.
