I'm starting to wonder if we've gone way too overboard with genre names.  Some have so little difference between them, that it sounds like they were just made to stand out in name only.

Yeah, there's very little difference between GrindCore and Slam Metal, for example, that they're almost not worth differentiating.

Some are worth separating, though, such as Power Metal and Progressive Metal.

To be fair, a lot of it is entirely unnecessary. There are really only a few Metal Subgenres worth worrying about; Thrash, Death, Black, Progressive, Power, Symphonic, Folk,, and Core.
