ManaMinori 4,145 September 30, 2018 Share September 30, 2018 (edited) We know that mules (offspring of a male donkey and a female horse) have gotten a pretty bad rep through the course of FiM. Often times, it's used (or taken by) by the ponies as an insult. Rarity whines to the Diamond Dogs and throws a fit over them calling her a mule (which Rarity relates to being ugly). Rainbow Dash, at one point used a phrase "be cool, or be Mule" in "Hurricane Fluttershy". Diamond Tiara, in "One Bad Apple" also uses a phrase derogatory to mules "too cool for mule". How do you guys think ponies might feel about other hybrids, such as Zorses (offspring of a male zebra and female horse), Zony (offspring of male zebra and female pony), or Zonkey (offspring of male zebra and female donkey)? Or even other hybrids that muddy the horse/ pony genetics? SharpWit 2,697 September 30, 2018 Share September 30, 2018 The frequency of mule sayings and the context they would hold in a world of sentient horses leads me to beleive that such muddying of genetics is looked down upon. The negative associations towards mules is clearly offensive but the usage in phrases is still common. The inhabitants of Ponyville were clearly afraid of Zecora before they got to know her, and only recently have they really become welcoming towards other creatures. Although donkeys may be one of the few non-pony species to be accepted, their offspring with them aren't, at least not completely.
