Bendy 1,821 December 25, 2020 Share December 25, 2020 (edited) Depicting ponies as a High Elf Race? Still ponies. But have High Elf race like traits. Pacifically as like the LOTR High Elves. The fandom has a terrible habit of depicting the ponies of being elitist snobs that look down at the lesser races in fan fiction. Particularly humans, the lowest of the low, filthy peasants. High Elves from LOTR are immortal and basically superior to humanity in almost every way. Apart from their reproduction rate. (without Morgoth) the Elves may had no reproduction rate issues at all, due to no corruption from the dark lord. Yet, the High Elves helped humanity against Sauron. When they could have just sailed to the undying lands and left Middle Earth to it's fate. They choose to stand side by side with the mortal, inferior race of humanity, despite their clear superiority over them. What I am getting as is. You could keep the ponies as a mary sue, near perfect race. But still have the honor as the High Elves. What that help fix the mary sueness of the ponies in somway in stories? In theory, all the ponies should be immortal alicorns and still be likable if they had some High Elf like traits. Or are you happy for the ponies to be total elitists. And treat the other lesser races as filthy peasants? And refuse to help the less fortunate, just because they are inferior. Goat-kun 2,531 December 25, 2020 Share December 25, 2020 I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if Tolkien had ever uses the term high elf in his works; however, I am quite sure that the elves you are referring to are the elves who have reached Valinor also known as Calaquendi. The problem is that ponies are not elitist in the way elves are due to their power and experience. Ponies are elitist in the way Hobbits are towards dwarves and wizards. They are no better than human trash. And most of them are also on that level power-wise. Unfortunately, writers have given some of them tremendous powers without any genuine responsibilities, knowledge of the world, or consequences when this power is abused, while the rest of the equine filth is busy playing selfish consoomers that don't give a damn unless they are personally affected. Honestly, if you want to balance this shit out and make things interesting, ponies should end up in a similar situation like the Eldar from 40k. If you do not burn down this world that our glorious writers have created down to its very idea, then you shall have quite a difficult time worldbuilding on the principles of fantasy as any 12yo punk knows that magic these days ain't just a load of random crap. Thus cry havoc and let slip the dogs of warp!

Maybe that was somewhat reflective of the concept of "The White Man's Burden" in it being the duty of European nations to civilized the "savages" of the earth? I would say that in all likelihood, the ponies from Granny Smiths generation and earlier would have held beliefs like this given Equestrian having been based on North America originally and their mutual practice of isolation we had seen until Twilight's mission if globalized friendship came to fruition. Usually I see Unicorns being portrayed in this way or more elvish.

Or should they have left them to face the darkness of Mordor alone? Quote Usually I see Unicorns being portrayed in this way or more elvish. Alicorns. But they are few in number even compared to the Elves. Plus Elves are immortal, just like alicorns. I haven't read the books or even seen all the movies, so I can't say they should have definitively, but generally you shouldn't let your enemies gain any ground, even if it's not yours being lost as well. There's also the saying that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. I don't think Alicorns work as elves so much since they're less of a race and more of a deification? Perhaps more comparable to the wizards which are like angels or something right? Celestia can be Gandalf, and Luna can be Saruman. BornAgainBrony 2,398 December 29, 2020 Share December 29, 2020 If I was going to place a conventional parallel from fantasy or even real-world mythology, I'd say the Ponies are a subspecies of Faerie. They use magic to control weather, change the seasons, make things grow; they're extremely playful, and happy-go-lucky as all heck. Elves, especially Tolkien's, are too rigid, prim, & proper. Almost self-repressed. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish though. Are you trying to put Ponies in LOTR? Or are you trying to reinvent Ponies as something more high-fantasy? In LOTR, spiritually and emotionally, they're a lot more like Hobbits, but they do magic and they don't shy from adventure.
