Hello my fellow bronies, my friend darte tripwyre and I are working on an mlp game. He is incharge of writing the script and I am head of visual design and cartography. However we need to find programmers, cgi animators and 3D map designers. We also need musicians and voice actors to bring the game to life, can any pony help us?

Edit:if you need info on what the game is about contact dart @ bluerichmund@hotmail.com and he will answer all questions, describe what the game is about, and take applicants for open positions.

Ps: if this is the wrong board to post this in, then let me know where stuff like this is appropriate, or move it to the right board so I would know for the next time.

Thankyou in advanced. Darkfeather Gryphon.

I'm sorry, I wish I could....

I do have a good voice , but not very good for imitating other's voices.

Though if you want to use my OC Storm Spark in the Game(He's at the botom of my signature) your welcome to use him!

Also, I almost never have time to do this kind of thing, sorry.

Could you please describe the game?

I mean with some flavor text you might get more people interested. From all I know this could be the most amazing Pony game ever or a game about as boring as watching paint dry.

Not too sure on any of the positions I could help with. I have some knowledge of programming, but that's like saying one knows some knowledge of cooking but can only make eggs. (I know a bit of C++ and Java, but not enough to get me anywhere)

Voice actors I'm sure you can find here. I could help with that (seeing that I have free time now) depending on what voices you need.

well darte tripwyre wants all applicants to contact him either by wlm or email, I am using my smartphone to connect to this site and darte is next to me using my phones network as a wifi hotspot since I have that active due to no internet till I get a new isp. I will edit my post to include this.

Definitely need more info then this. More specifically I would like to know what your guys' experiences is in game design since, from the titles, it doesn't look like much. I also need to know what engine you are using to make this game.

A little more detail would help. I can program in Java, and I could probably do voice acting. Depends on what's going down with the game.

How good are you at Java?

All I can do is make a text game with arrays and System.out.print, do while, else if, and static void main();.

just add darte to your msn or email him, I edited my post to include that detail.

If java helps I'm a little good at that.

this game is no one-man job. im a writer and storyboard planner. technically the producer. we need about 4 programmers and about 7 artists. and voice actors for every character

I would bet money that this project won't finish.

It is VERY common for someone with an idea to try and get people to make their idea. The problem is that this just doesn't work.

Here are some reasons as to why I know this project will crash and burn:

  • 4 programmers? Dude, programmers have trouble working together even in a corporation setting.
  • 7 artists? That's more artists then there are on some commercial games.
  • From what I can tell, you already have an idea for how this entire game is going to work out and this usually ends up causing problems down the road because not many people want to make another persons idea for free.
  • You really only have an idea for a story.
  • You don't seem to know what it really takes to make game
  • Your trying to make Halo as your first game (not technically Halo, but its a phrase I use to refer to hobbiests who try to make a big project with no experience.)
Sorry to be a Debby Downer, but I have seen this SO many times I've lost track.

I'm telling you this so you don't waste your time. Of course you can still try, that's your right, but consider yourself warned.

I would suggest that you take the scale of your game down like 20 notches and make a mini game or a simple puzzle game.

You'll probably disregard this, but oh well. I tried.

Good luck anyways I guess.

In away i hope you disregard what the person above me said!

Notch didn't just make a 'mini game or a simple puzzle game.'

You have every right to try!

Just a tip though... i would let your friend talk when your on about the game.

He makes the hole thing feel abit... fake...

I know this is a small time game but you have to remember this is techonly a bussinus deal your doing here for people to work on your game!

So sell it them! Tell them what its going to be about. Tell them what kind of things there going to be doing.

Always sell/make it sound fun i hope this helps. :)

Notch worked as a professional game developer before and during parts of minecraft's initial development. He is also a long time participant of Ludum dare. The lead AI programmer on the Sims' first game was a very simple farm game. My first game was a block pushing puzzle game. My argument is very accurate and valid and I hope he considers it.

EDIT: let it also be known that the nature of Notch's work before minecraft was of the small and minigame variety. This also means that Notch was more then just a hobbiest game developer.

I think its mean to slap somebody down though. My first game was a game where you were a cat and u had to try and live by fight other cats and getting water and food! XD anyway~ All i'm saying is you should wish them luck, not slap them down. Even if you believe that there not going to make it or what ever~

It wasn't pure slap down. It was a critique and my coder wishes someone had done it for him. He wasted his entire summer on a project that never finished. It may be blunt and harsh, but it will help him in the long run. Think of it like this: He is trying to repaint the mona lisa without ever having picked up a pencil in his life before.

This is actually a big problem in today's culture. We don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or step on everyone's dreams. Everything has to be fair. Everyone has to be special. How about we, instead, go and do it like those people who were before us? I think that would be a nice change.

In Boy Scouts, they teach us to use SMART goals.

S - specific, significant, stretching

M - measurable, meaningful, motivational

A - agreed upon, attainable, achievable, acceptable, action-oriented

R - realistic, relevant, reasonable, rewarding, results-oriented

T - time-based, timely, tangible, trackable

This is from an organization known for success and has been around for more then 100 years. I think they have some good advice. (look at "R")

Also, I did encourage them at the end, I said "Good luck anyways I guess"

Bohtty may be a bit harsh but is right in that this does not sound like a typical game that gets done. I have seen many projects like this try to get started and ultimately die out.

First what type of game are you making? Why are you so hesitant to give out any details. Right now it just seems like you have a tiny idea that hasn't been fleshed out since you haven't told us anything about it yet.

You need to have a solid plan and understanding of everything that you are going to need to do for this game.

Write out a design document. What are the tricky coding spots going to be? Figure out all the features you are going to have because it's hard to add something halfway in to the project. What are the bare minimum assets you will need. Then think about how you will beef that up.

What programming language is best for the game you are trying to make? Are you going to support multiple platforms? How are the controls going to work. How will things interact?

You should have these questions pretty well answered.

Anyway at least tell us what you want your game to be and I hope you are able to get it done, whatever you are trying to do.

I know I was chatting with somebody on the Dev team about this last night, and even though I've said the same thing, listen to Starstep here. If you're going to be working in a group, you flat out need to have everything planned out before you can really begin working on the game itself. I made a video game of the story of Adam and Eve for my art class, and while it was playable I was foolish enough to not plan everything out and because things got so disorganized, the game was not finished within the six week deadline. From this experience alone, I can tell you that if something similar happens in a group you're in for some massive trouble.

Still, I told you this last night but I might as well say it again: I'm willing to help out. I know for a fact that since you don't have too much experience in game development you will learn a lot, and I'm having some fun with this already. Mainly posting in here to see if I could get a specific time for us to get online and chat some more about the project.

Just editing my signature to say that my behavior on here was cringe. I don't regret the friends i made but man i was cringe here
