I'm not good at English but I wanna tell you a musical tip.

In S2EP7(May the best pet win !), Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" is used.

It's used after Rainbow Dash said "Gesundheit".

This word means "Health" in Germany. And use as English "Bless you.".

This song's origin,  "Ring of the Nibelung" is based form Germany myth.

What is more, in original opera, this song plays in scene of "Valkyries that ride on Pegasi fly freely and go to the top of rocky mountain."

It's very familiar with this episode.

The sight of Rainbow Dash and its candidates flying through the rocky valley can be described as brave and spectacular.

I salute the music director.

P.S. In addition, Valkyries are female. So RD is maybe Valkyrie.

The Topic got moved to the right section c:

Ring of nibelung isn't a German Myth, It's a four-part opera cycle by Richard Wagner while the ride of the Valkyries or Valkyrie Ride is the name of the orchestral prelude to the third act of the opera "Die Walküre" by Richard Wagner

Don't mind me, just waiting for my pancakes.

@from_new_world "Ride of the Valkyries" tends to be used in all sorts of Western media, usually to make scenes feel more "epic." Sometimes, it's used to contrast a lighthearted scene because this music piece is quite dramatic, when a cartoon such as MLP is not as dramatic in nature.

In general, this is quite a common practice for specific music pieces for Western media.

There's a lot of music that's used like this but for different purposes, such as "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor, which is used for redemption or "comeback" scenes of a protagonist, the theme song for "Mission: Impossible" composed by Lalo Schifrin is used for dramatic and sneaky or espionage scenes, and The Benny Hill Show version of "Yakety Sax" by Boots Randolph is used to emphasize comedic chase scenes or other silly shenanigans.

I'm pretty sure G4 has a parody of Yakety Sax for one of the episodes. It might've been a CMC episode but it's been a while so I can't recall exactly which one.

Audio examples:

Survivor - Eye of the Tiger

Mission: Impossible theme song

Boots Randolph - Yakety Sax (The Benny Hill Show version)

If this were any other series, I would count it to coincidence. However, Ingram is genius so I do strongly suspect it's a purposeful reference.

Yes, I know it's Wagner's opera.

And I heard this story is made of German myth...not right ?

I'm not sure because I've never watched this opera.(It's a huge opera... it takes about total 13 hours...)

I have to learn about Europe a lot !

I didn't know Ride of the Valkyrie is used by Western media frequently!

I'm surprised that often it use in comical scenes.

I want to recognize other piece's parody !

I know I reading too much into it.

However it's fun to consider why it's used even though few things !

But I'm so apologize for my vague recollection and I posted as if it were a fact.

  • 3 months later...

Incidentally when Twilight in Equestria Girls says that Fluttershy would never use her animal friends to attack anyone, I have since had a thought of FS having to lead some animals into action while saying "Charge!" set to the music.😁
