The Reason Why G5 Manages to Be of High Quality

This is a slight follow-up to my previous thread explaining the true cause of G5's perceived "failings". If you're someone who keeps up with G5, watching the new episodes of Tell Your Tale when they're new, you might be surprised by how good the new episodes of Season 2 are. It begs the question, why does TYT need to be an especially good show now that it's not needed to support another show and has a dedicated audience of young kids who are far from exigent? I believe the reason ties back to what I discussed in my previous thread about the struggling toy market. G5, regardless of what content related to it is being produced in order to promote the toys, needs to be of high quality. With the currently dire state of the toy market, Hasbro can't afford to have what is currently their only G5 show airing rest on its laurels, something that could lead to a loss of motivation to buy the toys. Make Your Mark's short run might have actually been a reason for why it was such a good show, since it had to do everything it could in the short time it was airing to incentivize viewers to buy the toys.

Actually, that may answer why G5 most recent toy releases are using TyT design instead of MyM 3D that had always been there. That makes me think we're not getting another show besides TyT for G5 in its runtime.

I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment and I commend and applaud you for being in the fandom to show support while making space for the new generation!

I personally think that was very clear when they announced that TyT would continue into 2025 back in 2023, I'm pretty sure this is matter of cut of costs, the more it earns, the more it produces, that's why back in G4 we had a show with long episodes and awesome animation, the Equestria Girls movies and the Theatrical movie. The only time we ever had something on the same level with G5 was in its first 3 years, with the Movie, a 3D show with great animation and long episodes, and a minor cheap 2D show in production at the same time. For me that shows that Hasbro was likely very confident with how g5 was going to perform in the beginning, with its toys and stuff, unfortunately, it didn't go very well, they didn’t get much of a return, so they had to finish what was left for MyM (they definitely already had the stories for the last chapters all written back in 2022, given how the final episodes of TyT Season 1 take place after the finale of MyM and they were all made in 2022) before jumping to only TyT, so due to low sales, they need to focus on spending as little as possible on production, that means, no more movies, no 3D series, no new Equestria Girls and anything like that, just the smaller, low-budget series, short and easy to produce, they won't count on something that isn't performing so well.

Anyway, I have strong counterpoints for the arguments presented in the main post (except for the toy part), but everytime I criticize G5 I'm just seen as a hater for some reason (even though I clearly try to suport it too) so I'm not even going to waste my time, I do think it's good to support G5, but it deserves much more, I think that was very "artificial" compared to the honest criticism it receives, I saw more of a "promotion" than actual passion, it's weird, but that's just me.

I'm counting only in the toys now. Sure the new TyT S2 episodes are more interesting than what we got most of S1 (in my opinion), but if Hasbro is trying it's best to sell the toys, then I'd like to wait and see. That's also why G5 got a Roblox game recently. Just like the G7 of Littlest Pet Shop, they brought the toys back with a Roblox game knowing it'll be a good advertisement for the new wave of toys and also attracting today's kids into the old style LPS toys. If that's what Hasbro seek with G5, honestly, I hope it goes good, and more interesting toys can come (that is, more ponies besides the new mane 6).

Don't worry about that, we're just discussing our opinions. G5 is not perfect, nor G4 was too, it had many flaws both in storytelling and the toys, it's just that G5 trying to do so many things differently some older fans aren't really getting into. We still have a year to go, I'm having hopes with S2 and after seeing the squeezlings dolls. Ah yes, and the comics of course.

I try to look on the situation more from a artistic perspective, I don't touch in the toys or numbers part because I really don't know much about them. But I'm partially surprised by the other side, being fair here, there are the comics, and I saw people saying good things about them, plus, they're releasing console games, something not even G4 had, so, outside of the toys and animated productions, I think this generation has been doing relatively well? I can't tell for sure, but it's interesting to think about it.

Thanks, G5 never was what I expected it to be, but I accepted it the way it was, I was happy, satisfied and hopeful with it during the run of MyM (and with the Movie), that show had a lot of flaws but I really liked it and I was hyped with the story, but since MyM ended, that hype just died for me, It has been really hard for me to like TyT, I enjoyed some episodes, specially the latest two, but a lot are just just not good to me, I'm really not a fan of the short episode format, and the overall concept of the show is just not for me, I'm really not happy that this is the only way to continue following the story, going from a high production 3D show with long episodes and a more complex story telling, to a minor production with short episodes that oftenly need to rush things, it is just very disappointing for me, and note that I was hopeful when Season 2 started, I really thought I was going to be surprised and enjoy it a lot, I really want to like the show, but not even the good episodes are impacting me or anything, the show has just been on average and innofensive to me. I appreciate that you're having hopes with the Generation and I really wish I had these hopes too, but unfortunately, for me it's just on its last legs and with nowhere to go, I'm not seeing it getting any better, I'm seeing nothing for it other than just it getting a melancholic ending in 2025. And I don't even have high expectations or anything, my expectations were actually very low when I watched the movie and MyM, and they surprised me, I enjoyed them. Unfortunately that is just not happening with TyT anymore for me, the episodes aren't annyong for me to watch, but at this point I'm really just watching them to keep me updated, I don't like to lose anything.

If there are a lot of people who are enjoying it, then I hope they continue happy with it, I really wanted to support this generation, but there's just no point on continue watching TyT if I'm not even excited oand passionate about it, so I'm honestly thinking that maybe the best I can do is just moving on from this generation, and go focus on continue exploring the other MLP content like the old generations, the comics and rewatching G4, MyM and the movies.
