I personally hope there will be a Japanese production special of FiM

Sure, FiM is over and G5 is coming, but I'd love to see at least an hour-long FiM special, and if it does, I'd love for it to be done by a Japanese production company.

I've always found it interesting how the US and Japan recreate their own IPs in their own ways. I think Japanese production companies have a knack for creating beautiful backgrounds and dreamy atmospheres. Of course, I'm not trying to disrespect Western production companies, but I think Japanese production companies can better capture the beauty of Ponyverse.

This isn't meant to be a debate about which is better, Western or anime. It's just my personal opinion. What do you think?

(I know how to speak Korean, so I accidentally used Korean...)

I love the Japanese style of those gorgeous backgrounds and I’ve always wanted to see more of that in western animation. For a long time the Americans had the smoother, higher frame rate for the main characters while the background remained, well, in the background. That was the focus and I can understand why. The Japanese artistry used to favor the backgrounds while the characters were done in a lower frame rate, which gave it an interesting look but one that might have benefitted from fuller animation. Now, it seems the Japanese have improved the character animation and given us the best of both worlds while the westerners’ character designs and overall quality have waned. There are always big-budget exceptions, but I like the Japanese style over western animation by far. I think a Japanese treatment of MLP would be scintillating!

A Japanese production of FIM would take G4 to the best level of animation!

However, in all likelihood, it probably will not happen.
Unless you have a personal relationship with an animator or studio in Japan, an anime studio will not animate something for a western IP. For legal reasons, they would need to be officially commissioned for that. It's why you see Japanese animation for properties like Batman, Rick & Morty, The Matrix, Marvel superheroes, etc. The western companies reached out and made a deal, commissioning them for work. If you're lucky, it can lead to a whole series and not just a one-off.

And unless things have changed, Hasbro might not want to continue working with Discovery Family and any other studios that have ownership rights for FIM. They've pretty much moved on from that generation. Unless they have renewed their agreements with those studios and actually want to give G4 a revival, I doubt it would happen. Would be nice. A very oddly specific thing to do for the franchise, but it'd be epic none the less! :eager:
