general questions What exactly does the “view” counter mean?

I don’t really know what to put in the box, the title pretty much summarizes the question.:awwthanks: Anyway, sometimes it feels like the view number says my thread got more views than it feels like it actually did. I get that some users are shy and don’t comment, but still. Also, does the view count go up when you view your own thread? Because sometimes it feels that way.

I mean, it really is what it claims to be, the "views" is how many times the topic has been, well, viewed. That is, entered, loaded.

Yes, you visiting your own topic does make the view count go up. Even not logged in users "guests", that randomly happen to enter the topic after online search, also make that count go up. So keep in mind many views may come from not registered users, who just happened to stumble upon the topic from online search. And also keep in mind, that usually there are faaaaar, far more guests online, than registered users.

Basically it doesn't matter who, it just shows the number of times the topic has been loaded.

That's the amount of times the topic has graced someone's screen, regardless of whether that someone has actually read anything in it.
