This ought to be interesting, I've never participated in a book discussion club before.

The first two chapters were really setup. Very fairy tail like.

I agree! I liked how all the sisters were introduced, as well! Enough detail that you could tell them apart, but not too much that it gave things away.

Yeah, it was funny hoe Lettie and Martha switched. But I think the story will just follow Sophie from now on.

And the mother's kind of the villain.

It was funny, and I get why they did it! Sort of a Prince and the Pauper situation!

She sure seems to be!

OMG, guys. I love the book.

All that "fairytale logic" references like "oldest sister" or "third encounter shall be special" made me wish to read Propp's "Morphology of the Folk Tale" classifying all mentioned fairytale patterns. Aso it's reminding me of the Shrek, mocking classic fairytales. :jazz-hooves-please:

In addition I can say, that the stepmother doesn't look so bad at the first glance. She gave opportunities to all her girls (yes, they used opportunities differently, than it was supposed, but still) and didn't forget to work on her own retirement. Don't you think?

Eventually I can add that I love how much the book differs from the movie. The difference makes it really worthy of reading :twilight-bop:

I do kinda get where the stepmom was coming from, but she still had no right to keep the one sister working in the shop without a chance to grow or really do anything else she may have wanted to do. I get that the business needed to stay afloat, but she could've at least given some options for apprenticeship (From what I remember, I think she did, but she never followed through with it).

Fair point, @ExplosionMare ^•^

It just doesn't look like Sofie was really forced to overwork. Maybe she needed some good lesson of work/life ballance tho :jazz-hooves-please:

She sure did! I think she felt as if it was her duty to keep the shop afloat, since she was the one selected to work there.

Hello, my ponies! ^-^

Well, the first stage of our literature experiment came to it's end so we could analyse it.

For me, personally, it was a big joy to share reading experience with you, guys. So I find the experiment successful in general. (It was my very first book club, to let you know ^w^)

Previously I ment to select the next book to read before November 1st. But right now the forum looks like it's passing it's quiet phase now and, I think, no one will object if the Fiction Book Club will take a break. A least until the Christmass and then we will see ^-^

If anyone interested, I was going to offer to start the Cinder from the Lunar Chronicles for the next book voting. Because people are talking about the Lunar Chronicles so much. ^o^

I would like to know your opinions about the club, ponies. As well as about books you would like to read (or re-read >:D). We still can discuss books here, you know 9u9

Oh I'd read that. :)) I found it in a little free library a while ago and haven't gotten around to it yet. I didn't realize it was part of such a long series. Might be a little "romantasy" for me but I'm willing to give it a try.
