Evilshy 5,093 July 7, 2012 Share July 7, 2012 Is there a maximum character count for a single post? Just curious about the best way to post a rather long fanfic that I haven't finished yet. Ideally, I'd like to post chapter 1 now, and then as I finish each further chapter, add it to the first post, so that all the chapters can be in one nice little post (in spoilers, of course). However, chapter one is nearly 17,000 characters long, so I need to know how much of this fanfic I can fit in a single post. Signature now 99% less edgy! Lady Rarity Pony 4,894 July 7, 2012 Share July 7, 2012 17,000 characters can most certainly fit. Assuming Feld0's WiiUForums and the MLPForums have the same character limits, then you should have no worries when posting something long. I've posted some extremely long posts in the spam thread over there. 1 LRP's opinions are subject to change without notice. Fees and penalties still apply. Starshine 16,335 July 7, 2012 Share July 7, 2012 http://mlpforums.com/topic/18854-post-character-count-limit/#entry419058 The per-post limit is 1,048,576 characters - or 1 MB, to put it another way. Keep in mind that formatting your text in any way will use up additional characters to store the formatting.

I don't want the thread to look like: chapter one chapter two comments comments comments chapter three comments comments chapter four comments etc. http://mlpforums.com...it/#entry419058 Oh... nevermind then. Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,529 July 7, 2012 Founder Share July 7, 2012 The character limit is over a million characters, as I said in the post Dreamwalker quoted, so it is extremely unlikely you or anyone else will ever write a post that crosses that limit. However, what you may want to be aware of is that IP.Board has a limit of 500 BBCodes per post. Believe it or not, I discovered that one the hard way once. I can up this limit a bit if it becomes an issue, but processing a post with thousands of BBCodes will result in a serious performance hit when viewing your OP. This limit shouldn't be an issue if you're relatively conservative with the formatting of your fic (ie. you don't bold, italicize, colour, and underline words for emphasis, just like a good writer should).
