"Come to think of it... I think I have to kill her. My instruction were to kill everypony in between the Citadel and you, and for that brief moment, she was there," Sunburn's voice was unreadable, there was no trace of malice or duty, just a cold, endless resolve.

Nightfall had a fire starting in his eyes. "She isn't anymore, is she? Besides, think of the... awards you would get for bringing back the NLR general..." Nightfall was trying everything. He had gently taken Blade off of his back and was standing between Blade and Sunburn.

"For the duration of this mission, I am your superior, in many, many ways," Sunburn said. "So step aside, or else I will have to take extreme disciplinary actions. It has come to my attention that she could be a grave security threat, and I no longer thing she is worth the risk."

"How in the name of Celestia are you my superior in any way? Last I heard, you were lieutenant colonel, one rank below me." Nightfall didn't move. He knew Sunbrun could fight well and maybe even kill him, but he decided to hold his ground. "And a security threat? What about the info she could give us?"

"I'm a combat specialist now. They moved me to that when they couldn't decide whether to punish me or praise me. I have been given command over this mission, and so I am in command over you," Sunburn said. "Now kill her yourself or step aside. She was an assassin in the employ of Celestia, and she knows far too much to be allowed into the castle."

"Stand down, Sunburn! I am not giving up!" Nightfall charged at Sunburn, trying to keep Blade behind him and Sunburn ahead of him.

Sunburn wasn't going to be the instigator, but now that the battle was began, he was ready for it. With a somewhat intricate move, he leaped into the air and thrust all four hoof-blades down, aiming for paralyzing joints in Nightfall's wings, then realizing the blades to stick there.

"I'm going to take the years in court martial out of your hide," he said. He wasn't hiding his anger, but even then there was no fire, just a hate the could be felt, but never heard.

Nightfall hit the deck, his wings throbbing.

"And this won't get you court martialed again? I said, stand down!" Nightfall stood up and prepared to rush again.

"I can twist this any way I want. Hell, I'll even sell it that she tried to twist your memories while you were in the Ponygon, and that this was part of the confusion. After all, why would the NLR release you freely?"

Earth pony magic is very deep, so deep few ponies can activate them. Sunburn is one of the ponies who can, and he was close enough to the earth to draw energy from it quite easily. So, with a massive stomp, he shook the entire train, then shot off after Nightfall with a vengeance, aiming to tackle him against the wall.

Nightfall barely escaped Sunburn's tackle. But his hoof was caught and slammed into the wall. He got up and began a spell that started moving the train along. He hoped that getting the train moving would give him enough time to protect Blade and get all four of them to Canterlot.

The train started to rattle in a far too unsafe fashion than anyone would like. Sunburn grunted and started to draw energy from the earth, moving towards Nightfall as he did so.

"Maybe you're right," he said as he continued. "A bit of torture might do her so good before her execution."

"Torture? By whom?!" Nightfall

Nightfall tried to steady the train. He closed his eyes and strained for a few moments. He knew that Sunburn could strike during this, but he had to get the train stable.

It seemed the trains instability was the cause of some outside source, but the magic helped somewhat, and the shaking was slowed considerably.

Sunburn did indeed strike, rearing back and striking out with both hooves with nothing but malicious intent.

Nightfall tried to dodge the hooves but was caught by a bit of each hoof. He fell back onto the ground. When he got up, he wiped his mouth and found blood coming from it. But that didn't matter. Sunburn was still ok. Nightfall tried casting a temporary stunning spell then running after it with the hopes that he would knock Sunburn over and get some time to stabilize the train more.

With a creak, and boom, the train started shaking. No amount of magic helped it. In fact, it seemed that the magic everypony was drawing from was only making the creaking worse, and worse. Finally, after tons and tons of shaking, the train fell over.

They were ten miles from Canterlot.

Sunburn brushed himself off, and a bit damaged started to stalk towards Nightfall.

Vinyl was still unconscious and now she was badly bruised with a few cuts on her body. Blood started trickling from her face.

Nightfall shook his head and got on his knees. He was still looking at the ground and blinking, when he remembered the train had flipped. He looked up to see Sunburn stalking towards him. He tried standing up, but his back left hoof hurt badly. He looked around quickly and saw Blade. Blood was trickling from her face. Nightfall coughed and crawled next to Blade, covering her with his body.

"Don't you *cough cough* dare, Sunburn."

"I'm not going to let him," said a voice quite familiar, not at all unwelcome, but perhaps a bit sterner than anypony might have remembered it to be.

Sunburn look over to the source, glanced up and down once. "Who's this, then?"

"Wits?" *cough* "Wits End? You ok?" *cough cough* Nightfall was coughing up blood now, still guarding Blade.

"Hush now, quiet now," was Wits' response as he moved towards Sunburn. "I've got this taken care of." He look different, much more muscular for one thing, on the level of a soldier or even above. However, even more than that, he had a look of determination, a steel in his eye, and a fire in his belly. "I've go this taken care of."

Sunburn laughed, dark and mirthless. "Alright, I'll give that the trick with the train was pretty good, but there's more to fighting than that sort of thing. I can still kick your flank, even in this condition." But, with a sudden spasm, he fell to the ground, unable to move.

"Most earth ponies ignore their magic," Wits said. "But in this case, it would have been better for you if you did." He walked up to Nightfall. "It's been a while." Other ponies poured in behind him, and a couple began helping Vinyl and Nightfall.

When Vinyl woke up, she was being carried off on the shoulders of a pony with a different uniform, but it wasn't an imperial uniform. She looked up and saw that she was going neither in the direction of Canterlot nor the Ponygon.

"Careful, Big Mac," Wits cautioned. "She's badly injured. Lyra, can you do some basic healing, see if you can stem the damage?"

He himself was carrying Nightfall. He was similarly damaged, but not in such a dramatic fashion, and it could wait 'til they got back to camp. "I'm going to have request confidentiality from you to, if that's alright. If not, we have ways of taking care of it."

"My name is Wits End, leader of the Front for a Unified Equestria, and I'm here to take you back to our camp. Don't worry, in most realities, you are going to survive these wounds, so it's unlikely you'll die here."

"What? What the hell are you talking about? Unified Equestria? Most realities?"

"Ignore the realities thing, that one takes some explaining. What you need to know is that I am part of a cover tgroup dedicated to ending the war in a more peaceful faction that a total victory would allow. You are being taken to our base, and I would like your promise of secrecy."
