Strange addictions BRONY EDITION

okay so i was watching that show strange addictions and some of the addictions are pretty bizarre and others not so bizarre. but addiction is defined as a action or behavior that relieves pain. NOW THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO EVERY BRONY. but the ones that are so deeply involved in ponies that they feel a connection to them that makes them feel better about them selves and relieves pain from being a loser of picked on or being different. lets face it not all but a lot of bronies are very unpopular and generally the outcast. but could that be a form of addiction being apart of a community or loving caring fans centered around something that doesn't judge you and shares a message of love and tolerating. just a thought i had. curious to see how other people feel about this.

If bronies have a certain obsession that ultimately brings them relief or healing, then that's great for them.

As for the TV show, they're terrible for exploiting people and displaying them as if they're a circus act because what they do isn't considered "normal". Yeah there's going to be ratings because people are going to be interested in seeing unusual things but it's terrible.

On the other hand though, the subjects of the show must know what they're getting into right? Or are they naive and think the show producers are benevolent and will treat them lightly? While the show is terrible, it takes two to tango and you have to be concerned with people who agree to be shown.

Possibly. As you said it depends from brony to brony. There are people that feel better when they watch the show and hang out with bronies, but they don't need it to be happy. But there are probably people who can't be happy without doing anything MLP related. That could be seen as an addiction.

But I don't see anything wrong with this. It's not like tobacco exactly. It doesn't led to serious consequences afterwards. No that we know about at least :P

there my not be anything physically damaging caused by it. let's take it a bit deeper though. what about the people who connect with a certain pony on such a deep level that they actually literally love the character and connect to it to the point where they buy a plush and pour every ounce of love they have into it. They talk to it. tell it stories. kinda like what a little kid would do with a imaginary friend only they are a grown adult. like trying to create a sentient relationship out of a stuffed pony. Something like that might not physically destructive like doing meth or crushing your mothers diet pills and smoking them in a pipe. but it could be mentally damaging in the sense it would make human interactions far more confusing and harder to deal with.

Er, well, I'm heavily addicted to ponies. But, not in a way that I'm completely, um, "off". I may be a little crazy, but I can keep my composure while I'm away from ponies.

there are alot of messed up people in this world... have you seen the video were a group of 4 bronies go to pizza hut singing "winter wrap up" in public?

What's messed up about that? I don't see how that sort of thing is a problem. I can see why someone might not want to do it themselves, but I don't see it as being messed up if someone wants to do it.

If you're happy and you know it you're unusual.

But that doesn't mean it's not worth trying~

I wouldn't call myself a social outcast but I have grown a strange bond with them :)

Are you saying that's messed up? I think that's actually kind of cool...

At that point my diagnosis would be that they've completely given up on the world. Obviously though, people can find sanctuary in anything that makes them feel comfortable... So to answer your original question... Both answers are right. There are people that think one way and there are people that think other ways.

But if that's how you define addiction than you can pretty much classify anything that gives anyone any form of comfort or pleasure an addiction... So I'm not really sure how much that actually says about the people you're labeling.

If someone ever descended to that point, such an addition would require help. Other than that, I don't think the majority of us are addicted to ponies. Everyone can live without them. It's not an addiction simply because people find ponies entrancing -- if it's something you like, you're going to spend more time with it, right? I play League of Legends a lot now, but i don't go outside and LARP at the public park.

... I'm not quite sure what the original post is saying, though. :U

Please use proper grammar.

whoo easy im not labeling any one careful how you just throw words around their. that's not how "I" define addiction that's the definition of it in simple laymen terms. I myself feel am guilty of this "addiction that's why i brought it up. im not labeling anyone.

First, I have to agree DoctorXFizzle; putting these people on display as though they are circus creatures is terrible. Certainly, some of them definitely need help; but that is a private matter. Of course the people know what they are getting into, but it says something about our culture doesn't it? We can hardly resist peaking into people's personal lives and, based on other reality shows, we enjoy seeing suffering and emotional conflict. I think those are two problems with US culture that need to be seriously examined.

Honestly, I've seen plenty of explanations for why people love MLP that make much more sense than claiming that it is some sort of negative addiction. Great animation, an overwhelming amount of happiness, and heart-warming lessons are just three things that can cheer up anyone's day. :P

Is English your first language?

Well, you've got great word bank compared the vast majority of the internets, so don't feel insecure. You're obviously not stupid, and I'm simpl the one failing to read into your question because I'm sorta... past the point of 'know' return. Get it? :P

The main thing I ask of you is to capitalize your Is and the first word of every new sentence. I'm really sorry, I just... nyyyyeh. I'm not a horrible person, i swear!

As with any addiction, people may or may not recognize that they need help. Regardless of the situation, such instances should be dealt with professionally and accordingly. Most "addicted" bronies just need some sunlight and physical interaction with others, I suppose. Honestly, I don't want to be 'that guy', but sports and exercise are definitely a great way to meet new people and form strong bonds.

Clearly the fandom is certainly divided when it comes to certain things like the whole to clop or not to clop situation *which let's not get into here* but some might consider that an addiction. How one brony feels really can't be said for all bronies. one brony is different to another brony as applejack is to rarity. (i tried to make that make sense sorry if i failed)

Oh boy a show that will trash the fandom by taking its most extreme member and applying it to all other bronies?

Sign me up!

let's forget that show part for second. so it would be fair to classify the most extreme members of the fandom as having a addiction?

I'm addicted to playing with dolls. I just love to dress them up and take pictures of them. :(

what kind of dolls

I own over a dozen BJD's

they're cute, they sit on a shelf I put up, sometimes I take them to "doll meets" sometimes out somewhere with lots of nature for a few out door pictures but its not something I bring into public (well some of the meets are at museums, no one seems to notice much though)

Anything, and I mean anything is psychologically addictive. Ponies are a very fun-loving joyous bunch that no doubt spur positive attitudes in other's lives. I think it'd be perfectly plausible to say it could give them a sense of hope and/or satisfaction to the point where they will have a hard time living without it. An addiction to My Little Pony would be similar to being addicted to video games or something like that.

Of course, not all major fans are addicted. There are some that just really, really enjoy the show. For a sort of example, I play video games almost all the time, but I would not obtain withdrawal symptoms from being apart from them for a while.
