Bronium 512 August 22, 2012 Share August 22, 2012 What if Blank Flanks/Muffins were able to actually post topics in the Life Advice section, but is unable to actually see other topics posted by other members? They can still see the replies (written by those with >40 posts) to their thread and can reply in return. Isn't the post limit ban supposed to stop possible trolls from actually trolling the Life Advice section? I think my suggestion still does that but allows blank flanks to post their life advice related issues in the appropriate sub forum rather than in general discussion. Also, it protects blank flanks from trolls that the Life Advice forum is supposed to protect. Sorry if this idea has already been discussed/implemented. I still haven't actually found the FAQ for the search bar just yet. 5 This one is a tad less creepy. Wouldn't you agree?
Phoenix Dirac Wright 121 August 22, 2012 Share August 22, 2012 Well, it is possible for the trolls to make random accounts on the forums and post random stupid topics on the life advice forums, possibly making an insult to everyone in there. Like maybe some troll can make a topic addressed everyone in the life advice forums saying they're stupid or something of the sort. Maybe another theory of mine is that they probably need some experience around the forums before they go posting willy nilly around the life advice forums to see how serious the situation of their topic is, as you can see seriousness of everyone in there. Bronium 512 August 22, 2012 Author Share August 22, 2012 (edited) Well, it is possible for the trolls to make random accounts on the forums and post random stupid topics on the life advice forums, possibly making an insult to everyone in there. Hmm, you bring up a good point there. How about you can post only one topic (for those with a post count of <40 posts) and all their problems would go in that one topic (no matter how different). If they have many different problems, they can make clear cuts/distinctions between the content of each problem for example: Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1Problem 1 Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2Problem 2 Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3Problem 3 And replies to the problem could be color coded, such as: Answer 1Answer 1Answer 1Answer 1Answer 1Answer 1Answer 1Answer 1Answer 1Answer 1Answer 1Answer 1Answer 1 Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3Answer 3 This would prevent spam topics. And if they severely need to make two or topics ( I don't know why), they need proper staff permission and a damn good reason. Like maybe some troll can make a topic addressed everyone in the life advice forums saying they're stupid or something of the sort. And if the troll was making random accounts, just deal with it like any other troll. Ban and continue ban of further troll accounts till the troll stops. I mean, they could do the same in Gen. Discussion or Sugarcube. Maybe another theory of mine is that they probably need some experience around the forums before they go posting willy nilly around the life advice forums to see how serious the situation of their topic is, as you can see seriousness of everyone in there. I'm not sure how you can judge what's "serious" and what's not. It's a pretty subjective decision. But if it's so obvious that the issue isn't an issue that requires advice then the topic can be moved to the Gen. Discussion or the appropriate forum. Or it can be locked/deleted.But I must make it cleat it must be so obvious, beyond reasonable doubt that the topic shouldn't be there. If it's a topic where the slightest bit of advice about life is required, then I say keep it. It fulfills the minimum requirement of the sub forum, and shouldn't be ostracized not being serious. I mean, imagine if you had a problem that you thought was pretty serious and would require unbiased and varied advice from all sorts of people, and then I came in and pronounced your topic "not serious enough" and delete it. How would you feel? I mean, there's no actual objective line of seriousness and to make one, would be especially stupid, especially in this section. Imagine the butthurt! Zoop 8,384 August 23, 2012 Share August 23, 2012 If someone lacks 40 posts and creates a 'life advice'ish thread elsewhere on the forum, present policy is to let it be until they've reached forty posts, at which point we move it into Life Advice. It is simple, and it works.
Bronium 512 August 23, 2012 Author Share August 23, 2012 @@Zoop, Yeah, but the whole point of having a section for just Life Advice is to protect the people the life advice is posted in (right?) and to help categorize the forum rather than just having it be a cluttered mess. I mean, if what I suggested requires new code or something that makes the thing kinda hard to do, I understand why you might not do it, but if it isn't (no administrative experience, so I wouldn't know) why not? I mean, it doesn't make the forum worse (at least, you haven't mentioned how it could be worse). Cost:Benefit right? But if it requires a lot of work to implement (again, I don't know) lock this up. If you can, please post on why it would be hard. Might educate me on why it's hard. If it has problems, let's discuss. This one is a tad less creepy. Wouldn't you agree? Dusty Soul 2,611 August 24, 2012 Share August 24, 2012 I don't think this would work out. They could still make posts in like General Discussion and it would be moved to Life Advice. I understand what your saying about organizing the site but, I think it's organized fine the way it is. Besides this change might make things more unorganized. By that I mean, what if a person joins the site and makes a troll thread in the Life Advice section. It would be easier just putting people that do that into the parts of the site that Blank Flanks can post in. I think the current standing the site has on this works fine. Bronium 512 August 25, 2012 Author Share August 25, 2012 By that I mean, what if a person joins the site and makes a troll thread in the Life Advice section What is a troll joins and makes a troll thread in General Discussion? Give him warning points, a PM and remove the topic. Pretty simple. I don't get what's makes the Life Advice section so different that people will ask for different measures. The ideas pretty much shot down, but what I'm saying is that future members can be protected from trolls and it's more organized. I don't really see the negatives other than it's not already implemented and it might take too much time to do. Which is a fair argument. This one is a tad less creepy. Wouldn't you agree?
