Forum Arcade

So, I'm not sure if this is possible to do, but could any kind of arcade-type game be implemented into the forums? Like, simple shooters/platformers/Breakout/whatever?

 

Because I think it'd be pretty sweet to battle for forum-wide high scores and such.

I believe this topic has been brought up in the past...and the truth is, I'm not sure it would work out.

 

From what I recall, the reason why it never worked out is because the prediction was it was going to turn into a universal attraction that would distract us from regular and necessary forum activity. It would hurt if we started leaning towards, and eventually primarily playing arcade games, instead of contributing to threads of the forum.

Well we did just implement a blog system, which can potentially, as you said, "distract us from regular and necessary forum activity". But so far, this hasn't been a nuisance, and I'm sure that something like games wouldn't be too big of a problem, either. I mean, there's so much that you can do while playing an arcade game.

I like this idea. It's like a simple alternative to the forum's TF2/Minecraft, and it'd bring us closer in a way. Each of us would be able to compete amongst each other, and generally enjoy the games.

I don't think that's going to be an issue, really. There are plenty of people who do the Minecraft and TF2 side things and still contribute. Same with the RP section.

Nope. We don't need to lug games onto the forum. In my opinion blogs are far different than video games. Blogs is more or less just more forums, but personal forums where people can talk about themselves and whatever they want. I don't care for the idea of games.

Tich pretty much covered all of the bases with his post; this is something that has been proposed more than once, and repeatedly met with the same response. Forum arcades tend to be lackluster, cookie-cutter, and somewhat tacky at the best of times - rather than add a bunch of overused 'me too' content of that sort, we'd prefer to keep our standards high, and only add content and features that we find to be of suitably high quality.

 

At the end of the day, our focus is the forum - we may have a few extras (see: game servers, etc), but they are not our priority or primary focus. Their existence does not indicate a particular desire to load up on similar features~Zoopidy Zoop Zoop

Amazing idea! I have seen other arcade for forums, they have leader boards. (top scores) I would like to see it on here.

I would love to see an arcade implemented to allow everyone fight over highscores and whatnot. Though, I don't see it happening due to it taking away focus from the forums!

a forum arcade eh thts atually very good idea there is this mlp game i played called mlp adveture game beat it btw and it like classic arcade game but its new so tht would be good 2 have in it good idea btw
