Lost 1,410 August 30, 2012 Share August 30, 2012 (edited) I've just finished a quick (well 30mins ish) drawing of scootaloo using this as reference: And i have come to realize that i have major difficulties shading, drawing circular objects and doing that white thingy on the eyes (i believe it is some form of light reflection to give indication as to which direction the character is looking) Any tips or tricks to help with this? Or maybe ya'll know of a beginners guide i could use? Any feedback is welcome Here is my drawing: On a side note, i realize now that i neglected to add the extra lines in her hair, sorry bout that :/ Edited August 30, 2012 by Lost 6 Your friendly neighborhood alcoholic motorcyclist Life is too short to worry what others think of you, be creative, be weird, live life. Lunalicious 223 August 30, 2012 Share August 30, 2012 Looks pretty good! Some things that could be improved on are her eyes, They could be a little more rounded at where the eyes meets the face. And the left part of her face could be a little more round. Other than that, it's a pretty good drawing! "Forgive me if I withhold my enthusiasm." Bohtty 1,775 August 30, 2012 Share August 30, 2012 (edited) I'm sorry, but I cannot critique your drawing without the proper lines in her hair! lol jk To draw circles, start small and then, no wait... There is no trick. Just practice. nobody woke up one day and was like "SHIT!, MOM! GET THE PAPER. I CAN DRAW CIRCLES NOW!" you just get used to them by drawing them all.the.damn.time. I would also suggest using a light and loose sketch and then going back and darkening in the lines. Focus on line quality and proportions, especially on drawings of cartoons. I would recommend not using an ENTIRE sheet of drawing paper for one sketch. I would instead recommend that you put several different sketches on a single page by making them smaller. Not only does this make it easier and more manageable, but you also aren't killing trees. This is my usual recommended tutorial: http://www.dragoart....magic-style.htm It's pretty good As some general drawing tips for improving your overall skill in drawing, which will help when drawing MLP, is to 30 second drawings, blind drawings and drawings with a pen. 30 second drawing. There are websites that can help you with this. Basically you just draw something as quickly and as accurately as you can in thirty seconds. Blind drawings, if I remember correctly, are just drawings you do of objects without looking at the paper or your hand. Th last activity is self explanatory. You might think that these are silly and aren't really helping, but they are. I promise. Keep practicing. If you want to get good at drawing then keep a medium size sketch book (I use moleskine, but that might be above your budget) and carry it with you. Draw in between classes. Draw at lunch. Draw on the ride to school. Draw in boring classes. The more you do it the better you will get. Take art classes when you can. Don't stick to pencil drawings only. Try painting, charcoal etc it will help your pencil drawing skills. EDIT: If you INSIST on drawing things that take up the whole page then you can use an empty circular container to get your circle down. It's not cheating, there is no cheating in art. Anyone who tells you that there is cheating is an air head. Edited August 30, 2012 by Bohtty Legit signature made by Shift.

Fear not, the trees are safe, it's only an A5 sketchbook so its not as wasteful as using A4 paper + It is possible it's made of recycled paper. Thanks for the advice, I'll deffinately try some of your suggestions out, although I'm a university student so I can take an art class and I ride a motorbike so I can't draw on the bus but I do take. Notepad to class to make notes on (obviously ) which I could draw in e back of. SpikeyWikey07 58 August 30, 2012 Share August 30, 2012 That isn't too bad for a drawing of Scootaloo. With more practice to the fillies' learning curve, you'll be able to master her design style.
Dusty Soul 2,611 September 1, 2012 Share September 1, 2012 It's actually really good. The lines do look a bit rough, but overall it is a really good drawing. Soundcloud-------------------Facebook---------------------------Youtube
XUNUSEDXXX 3,459 September 1, 2012 Share September 1, 2012 The only problems I really have with the picture are her wings and eyes. They look a bit awkward. But Scootaloo ftw!
