Camcorder Help

Hello. I'm an aspiring filmmaker in need of some help. I'm looking into getting a new camera. The one i currently use is a Sony DCR-DVD101 with a Azden ECZ-990 mic attached. It's working fine but I'm looking into something with higher quality and more recording time, because so far, it's only 30 minutes per disc. I don't have that big of a budget, so so I can't spend much more than $500. Any advice will help! Thank you!
