How Old is Equestria?

I was just in the shower, thinking about non other than ponies, and something hit me... How old is Equestria? Or, how long has Equestria been around? What was there before Equestria? I'm not sure if the show provides any details to my questions, but if you were to guess how long Equestria has been in existence, what would your guess be?

 

Facts based from the show:

We know that Discord ruled for 1000 years

We know that Luna was banished to the Moon for 1000 years

 

Here are a few timelines that I've come up with:

 

Theory 1 - Very Possible

 

Theory 2 - Possible

 

There are some other speculations, one being that Luna was banished at the same time Discord began to rule. This is not possible, because:

1) Celestia would not have had the power to banish Luna, because Discord was in charge.

2) In the first two episodes of MLP, we would have seen the chaos that Discord was causing, because he would still be ruling. His 1000 years would not have been up yet.

 

Another is that Luna was banished before Discord took over. This cannot be right because:

1) Again, we would have seen the udder chaos that Discord was causing in the first episodes.

 

Luna was banished after Discord took over? Nope:

1) Celestia would not have the power to banish Luna, because she wasn't in charge.

 

Disproving those theories is based off of the EXACT number of 1000, I could be very well wrong, and I am totally open to more ideas and speculations. The number could be around 1000, and then we could have endless theories on what could have happened. However using the base of 1000 is the most accurate way (I believe) of trying to find out the series of major Equestrian events.

I've never really though about it... Well my guess is pretty damn old.

 

Celestia said that Discord ruled before her and Luna and seeing as Discord is a god I'm assuming he must be pretty old. I wonder... If maybe Discord created Equestria when time started?

Mind = Blown... I never really thought about that either! What if Discord was ruling, and then Celestia like stood up to him?! Damn that would be legit. I know thats kind of how it happened, but not with Discord starting off as the ruler.

OVER 9000!!!!!!! Nah joking, but that is a good question. Hmmmmm....I think Discord is the oldest. Well Equestria should be more than 2000 years old. Since how I understood Luna was Nightmare Moon for 1000 years, then got send to moon for another 1000 years? I don't know 6_9

My guess is that there were more gods and/or godesses that created the whole of Equestria millions of years in the past. They ruled together in perfect harmony until, one day the god of Chaos grew angry and destroyed the other gods and assumed control of the whole of Equestria. This reign lasted a thousand years then Celestia and Luna came into power. They ruled together a thousand years then Luna revolted, Celestia ruled alone a thousand years. Then she came back. So I think it's over millions of years old.

It's over 1000... Remember... Equestria started long before the ruleing of Celestia and Luna? Then 1000 years of Luna being trapped in the moon...?

Assuming Equestria was still referred to as Equestria before Celestia and Luna came along thousands of years ago when Discord ruled, I'd say it's been called that ever since the first ever settler ponies came to the region.

And she is quite young looking so I guess she can live about 5000 years.

And her parents must therefore had been atleast 5000 years,

Which means

5000+3000+1000+1000

but we don't know if discord ruled durning the time luna was on the moon, so let's remove 500 years

which is

5000+3000+1000+1000-500=10,000-500=9500

 

So, It's over 9000!

UPDATE: Anyway, I've added two timelines and (I think) presented enough facts to disprove some speculations.
