Clarity 3,094 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 I felt like King Sombra was very, very incomplete to me. His portrayal felt incomplete...to me, it seemed like he would make a reappearance. Or maybe he's already confirmed to reappear. So, what do you think will happen next once he returns?
AegisReflector 886 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 As long as he just doesn't go MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA and actually has solid dialogue/character development, I'm all up for him appearing again. But, then again, these villains seem to be a one-time deal as for now, as none of them (well, technically Nightmare Moon but not as a villain per say) appear in any other episode. Discord better appear again. I don't care when. Even the series finale would be nice, but he definitely needs to make a second appearance.
Lightning Fluttershy 1,844 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 The only reason I would want him to appear again would to get another look at him, because he's the most badass looking villain of them all. Other than that I never want to see him again. :|
Vicke 3,189 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 He is indeed incomplete. - Never showed his real power - Never was a real threat - I find it hard to believe that it was some sort of light and hope that killed him. - No backstory Yes. Making him return would be great, because then they may fill those gaps. Signature made by Kyoshi
Da Chi 1 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 I think he only had something like 5 lines through the entire two part episode. Maybe 8 if you count evil laughter. It was slightly explained why he wasn't that much of a threat though. He was turned into a shadow, so he likely had to regain his power before he could truly wreak stuff up. If this was a movie, he would have gotten his powers for act 3 and just ruined everything, but it's only a show so you can only ask so much. Reversalx 129 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 Even though he wasn't throughly defined(or defined at all), i still like the "darkness" he brought into the episode. The dark magic introduced, his manifestations, and dat door He should of done at least SOMTHING. Then again, they had to make every main pony shine in a way, so i see how they would leave out some detail on sombrero. "Colorful Rainbows catch my eye, as i see you fly across the sky. You're like a drug that calms the mind." Recycled sig from one of my test anims. Pay no heed.
poniesforfun 716 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 King Sombra's name was obviously a wording of "Somber" as in sad. He could probably cause sadness around ponies and shut off their powers (like Shining Armor's horn) possibly causing despair. Here's the gist, I would really like to see his daughter rise up to the challenge against the mane six as the element that will counter Pinkie Pie. PonyEcho 1,610 November 11, 2012 Share November 11, 2012 indeed it feel like there should have been a 3rd episode with Somber to show his ultimate power, hell all they would have needed to do was improve the flashback/ history lesson and show him being eviler, maybe show Luna and Celestia struggle against him. he feels like a villain that will be improve via fan made stuff, i mean i have a concept of his shade form being able to possess ponies so i have some good art ideas around that. my DA http://heavyecho.deviantart.com/ check my stuff out the Anime Club http://mlpforums.com/topic/48196-the-anime-club/ plz join us
NavelColt 22,881 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 (edited) People continue to throw Sombra under the bus, when his entire purpose as a villain was presence, and the issues his mere presence caused (fear among the Crystal Ponies, Cadence suffering, etc.). That's why he didn't have much dialogue or character development, because he was purposefully portrayed as a dark, mysterious plot device villain who did all these horrible things in the past, and was now trying to come back and reclaim his throne. Not dissimilar from Sauron from Lord of the Rings. Did Sauron talk and get you to like him through back-story? No. But you feared him like the dickens, anyway, because of what he was and what he could do. With that said, if he came back, I wouldn't truly mind either way if we did or didn't get background info about him. Another chance to see what he'd do and perhaps get a little wider variety of speaking lines would be cool. Sararyman...man 41 November 12, 2012 Share November 12, 2012 (edited) Sombra is can be destroyed, but reincarnated, his soul resides on the top of mount oni in the wasteland of Desierto, the only way to destroy him is to find his horocrux, the neclace of dispair, who' s power is so great that it consumes the will of anyone who wears it, the horocrux can only be destroyed in mount oni where it was forged. Twilight is the only one who can somewhat resist this magic, and so the mane 6 must go to mount oni in the desierto wasteland. what I'm trying to imply is that they should do a lord of the rings and sombra can be sauron. Darkest Day Dreams 26 November 16, 2012 Share November 16, 2012 I think he will once again try to take over the Crystal Empire but this time, he might have more power or he may find a way to get more power. I really doubt he will win though. Twilight and the team always find a way to stop a problem. 1 King Sombra Forever.
NavelColt 22,881 November 16, 2012 Share November 16, 2012 (edited) Alright, time for some head canon about his past. "How dare you, witch! You cannot do this to me! Me! The most talented and powerful being ever to grace this land! The empire is MINE to rule, and mine alone!" "You were a light in the dark, Sombra. But you strayed from the path I sought to help you down. I only wish I could have stopped you before it had come to this." Sombra was a past student of Celestia, back when she was just beginning to truly take on apprentices, over a thousand years ago not long after Discord was taken down, and the princesses' reign truly began. Sombra was a unicorn prodigy like Twilight, and Celestia saw much talent in him. Despite noticing how rough he was around the edges, she was sure she could smooth them out. Like I said, he was one of her very first apprentices. She was a bit naive. Unlike Twilight, he constantly sought power and admiration for his talents, but that's not all. He had an unhealthy obsession with the dark arts, because dark magic was fiercer, more intense and more deadly than normal magic. It attracted him like a moth to the flame. He let dark magic consume him, and it would eventually turn him into the power-hungry tyrant we know. He fled from Canterlot's region to escape Celestia's immediate watchful eye, and, seeing the rather helpless Crystal Empire in the far northern reaches, took it over with ease using the vast dark magic he had mastered over the years, of which was unbeknownst to the princess. By the time he took over the Crystal Empire, his mind was too warped by dark magic and lust for power and control to be brought back to the good side, so Celestia and Luna had no choice but to seal him away when they became aware of his tyrannical reign.
