New OC in progress, please help.

I feel terrible posting like this, but I've never been good at coming up with anything. I've already come up with a design, using the Fabulous Pony Maker. Yeah, I still can't draw for beans.

I don't have a name, talent, cutie mark, background or anything yet. So I'm asking for help in coming up with these things. If that's all right.

 

 

 

 

Okay, so here he is! So far the only thing I can think of is that he could be a librarian.

 

I still have the pony maker up, just in case I need to change any of the details. Please tell me if any of the colours don't match, or if you have any suggestions on what I should do. Sorry for such a long post...

He looks sort of punk-y, nice and chill with a good taste in music and a cool alternative style. Maybe search for some awesome alternative bands and inspire a pony-sounding name from there..... And maybe his talent lies in his background with his librarian career...... So his cutie mark could be some kind of book theme, like maybe an icon from a classic story. I'm sorry I'm not being super specific, but I am trying to brainstorm with you and let you be the one to think about these things and come up with it yourself! As for his background story...... Maybe since he has such a chill but punk/alternative style, he has gone through things that has made him want to express himself creatively.... maybe he had a rough past in school, or his family was broken..... Something that would be hard to get him to talk about unless you became really close with him..... haha no I am in ramble mode. WHERE IS THE OFF BUTTON!? Hahaha well, I hope this at least helped get your brain going! Good luck!

I like your ideas. I just might use that... but I'd still have to come up with a name, haha. Not my strong point, that's for sure. Would it be over the top if I gave him a latin name? I don't know, I'm just thinking of random stuff. Sorry. XD

Honestly, the ideas aren't really coming to me. I like what you've posted, but I can't quite settle on just one thing. Maybe you could give me more suggestions? Or perhaps... erm... no. Maybe... no. I'm terrible at this.

I just had a thought! The lightbulb is still shining bright!

 

Perhaps he could work as a library assistant, but the pressure to "discover your talent" wears on his optimism. After all, the Cutie Mark Crusaders are all about finding out their special talent. It's also a very social thing, considering how often Apple Bloom and the other crusaders are teased, mostly by Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon.

 

Maybe that's one reason why he does his best to keep calm at all times. (Don't panic and carry a towel?)

 

I'll stop flooding with my posts for now. I'll really think about this before I post more.

You had to do my colorblind colors XD Reds and greens don't go well for me.

Nevertheless, well The mark could be a feather quill, or a book. I think the name could be something along the lines of "Dream weaver" Since he looks like it likes books. or something more extravagant, "Gordeon, Reader and keeper of the pages."

Talent, glasses = books, glasses people for the win!

Other than that, if you are basing your OC off of you then we'd need to know your personality, but if it's just a free standing OC then that's all I have to impart.

 

EDIT: looking back at the picture; I noted he looked like an artist.

Okay, I've come up with a few other things. Some of his personality traits, and what sort of magical feats he can perform.

 

He's optimistic, focused, somewhat vain and can perform minor levitation. Small things, like books, quills and other light objects. He likes to keep up his appearance, mainly in taking care of his mane and tail. His scarf is just there because he (and I) find it fashionable.

 

What else? Oh, nervousness. He keeps everything calm on the surface, and tries hiding the fact that others could easily see he is without his cutie mark. It drives him up the wall.

 

Update:

Okay! I've been thinking about this all day... and I'm still coming up with almost nothing. I've thought about a potential name though. Page Turner? Red the Dreamweaver? No idea.

What if you made his name something akin to the phrase "Reading between the lines"? A lot of ponies have their names taken from idioms, like Shining Armor, and an OC I saw earlier named Silver Lining.

I just got a great idea for his cutie mark when he gets it. I have made a sketch of it if that's okay. Feel free to use in or not or just parts of it. It's for your OC of course you have the control. The idea came from the hitchhiker reference.

 

 

Oh, and I love the concept for your OC. And if you do like it I and do a vector of it.

That'd be a towel in Lux's drawing. A reference to your Hitchhiker's Guide reference.

 

Off the top of my head, there are several bookish idioms (your character's a bookworm, no?).

 

There's "Don't judge a book by its cover", "Take a leaf out of _____'s book", and, like I already said, "Reading between the lines".

 

From these, you could come up with several. Maybe "Cover Judge" or "Line Reader" or something. I'm fairly poor at naming myself, to be honest.

 

Or, you could reference some of his other qualities. I saw the word Quill earlier, for example. You could call him Quill Streak (It's a pun gamers might get ) or Tome Keeper or Biblio File.

 

Or you could call him Bookworm!

Yay! I guess spouting whatever came close to being a name that came to mind worked! Yeah, Tome Keeper sounds like it might be more of a title. Terra might work as a name too. I like it.

 

On an alternate note, could you follow the link in my sig and tell me what you think of my OC there? I'm not the best writer, but I think I did a good job of personifying him, even if I did get a bit rambley. Plus, I'm not entirely sure I like his name, or his Cutie Mark. I'd appreciate any evaluations or criticisms you'd be willing to give
