What makes a good topic?

Ok everypony, I've been looking at some of these topics, some are good, some are bad and some just make no sense.

Now I've only made two topics myself, but I was wondering, what dose make a good topic, is it the questions, is it a cry for help or is it news. What topics would I like to see and make use of?

Any ideas or topics you really like and why? ( maybe this topic will be good, for voting on favorite topics or something. It's my little experiment)

Well, mainly anything that would spark up a discussion, because that's what a forum literally is, a place for discussion. But it's really just about people sometimes having something to say and other times they don't, so I doubt there's actually a definitive rule for this sort of thing...

Whatever comes to mind really :P if you wanna say something and share it with other bronies just start a topic, doesn't really matter.

What I personally would want in a topic is funny stuff, which is why I like forum games. And creative stuff too, once again, forum games. I am also a mad genius that could come up with too many things to count, therefore and once more (lol rhyme), forum games.

Copied and pasted from the Something Awful rules:

"Before you post: Before posting, please ask yourself the following question: "Am I making a post which is either funny, informative, or interesting on any level?"

That, essentially.

Also, not making a duplicate thread. Sometimes, it's bound to happen, but a little forethought goes a long way. You should expect there to have already been a "Who is your favorite pony" thread or a "OMG GUYS A SHOW REFERENCE OF SOME KIND" thread on a forum that has been around for a year now.

Um... yes? Am I doing something wrong, that post seems like you're trying to help me to see what I've done wrong (if I have done something wrong) so have I?

Oh, no. Don't take it that way. Those are just the general guidelines one should follow. Your post asked how one should go about posting, and I merely provided an answer.

Trust me, if I thought you were doing something wrong, I'd have said so directly.

Great, this is all just a little experiment of mine, just to see what the best topics are. Then I can pick them open and work out what you guys want. It's very psychological and a interest of mine.
