Dragon fighting 101, part 1; Seal the mouth. Umbra summoned a length of rope and wrapped it around Shift's mouth at lightning speed.

Step 2; Create reins. Umbra flew up onto his head, tying the ropes together. "and that, mares, colts and those of unspecified gender is how to bridle a dragon" He was still in range of shift's claws.

midnight pulled a map from one of his saddlebags and looked at the map, then where he was, marking the campsite down he grinned softly, "lets see what you have going on down there." he smiled and started scanning the camp, noticing it was small, but they were preparing for something, what he was looking at seemed to look similar to the pits but alot smaller, only consisting of a few tents, nothing as big.

"now this, is interesting." midnight grinned, "umbra will deffinetly find this useful." he frowned, what can he do to rile them up, cause a bit of chaos?

he noticed a tent that seemed to house all of their food, "bingo." he turned and pulled out an arrow, "leave it to celestia to train her army to put ALL their food stores in a canvas tent." he laughed and lit the tip of the arrow on fire, "magic is handy and easy to use, when its fire," he rolled his eyes then drew the bow back, and letting the arrow fly.

the tent immiedietly caught fire and the flames spread quickly, the chaos spreading as ponies ran to douse the flames, "oh the chaos."

Shift rolled his eyes.The dragon he had learned his form from was an old warrior, who knew all the tricks of fighting both as and against a dragon.

In the next seconds several things happend simultaneously;

1) Shift gathered and unleashed a small amount of fire out of his mouth, he had no way of controlling the fire so it leaked out of his lips on every side, burning through the ropes.

2) Shift's tail arched up his back and grabbed Umbra, trapping him.

3) Shift leapt into the air, spreading his massive leathery wings he pushed himself up.

Upon his second wing thrust Shift whipped his tail downward throwing Umbra, unceremoniously into the ground at high speeds that no pegasus could escape from in the short time the fall took.

Umbra closed his eyes and spread his wings, lessening the impact of the fall. Enough to stop him from breaking any bones as he slammed into the ground. "...Right, this is good, his power levels are through the roof. Everything has a weakness. The more powerful the more obvious."

Shift landed nearly on top of umbra. He picked up the pony and held him close to his eye. Dragons had a pretty good sense of hearing. "You think this form has a weakness? well you are wrong." Shift's voice took on a new tone. "I have no weakness while I maintain this form." Shift wondered if his emphasis was enough to get his point across.

(He could not be beaten in this form...but afterwards he would slip into a coma from the pain caused by the transformation. He could only stand as a dragon because this form had such a high tolerance for pain. the amount of pain caused when transforming into anything else was minimal. but the size difference causes him to collapse)

Umbra started laughing, realising what you wrote in the brackets //Fourth wall breaking for the win\\ "I thought you wanted to wage war against the changelings" He laughed "You won't get far in a coma. Nice work on the no weaknesses thing. It won't get you far though."

"I fear you misunderstand. I can maintain this form for as long as i wish, but changing back causes enough pain that i will black out for roughly six hours. but I only need to change back for one reason; Changelings are meant to blend in, and last I checked a 20 foot dragon stands out from a crowd of ponies. I dont like this form simply for the adverse side effects, if i could control those i would be more then strong enough to do what I wish." Shift brought his eye to look at Umbra."that is the only reason I enlisted. to make my other forms stronger so as to resist the pain. Other then that, there is nothing stopping me from crushing and eating you here and now." Shift dropped umbra who quickly recovered from losing his footing. Shift then glowed green again, shrinking into griphon form. He said one last thing. "dont think for a second that you can defeat the dragon alone. It usually takes a royal guard of at least 30 to take down a normal dragon, and i'm little different." with that he collapsed.

Umbra teleported the sleeping changeling to his room laughing. He contemplated the fight, letting him think he was more powerful in any form... was that a good idea? Hiding his own power? No, no showing off, no playing with the restriction levels. Especially not against trainees. He took the blade out, allowing the shadows to wash over him, soothing his wounds. Mind you, going easy wasn't getting them anywhere either.

Midnight returned to camp, his armor a bit singed, showing the fire he used was a bit more rasiliant than he thought, "that was eye opening......but fun." he laughed then walked up to umbra dropping the map, "sir, camp about 2 miles to the south, i burned their supplies, so they shouldnt be there much longer." he saluted and started to walk off to refill his supplies.
