I'm a pianist, I have a OK knowledge of music theory, and I improvise and compose a bit. What if I would compose a Romantic era style piece and upload it to youtube. Unless it wouldn't be a variation work, transcription or a paraphrase, would it be pony music?

Yeah, make a OC, make a pic of it at the piano, name the piece "A ballade for Octavia".. Profit. But how could I handle all the spaghetti?

As long as its a reference to either the show, the fandom, a creative content from the fandom or absolutely anything relating to mlp, then its fine.

But you have to consider something that would hint that its a pony music. Like titling the piece into something pony related or a picture of sorts.

^ That is what really annoys me about so called "brony musicians", you can be a brony and a musician, but it ain't brony music unless its got references to the show in the song itself, slapping a song on a pony picture isn't brony music, its audience broadening.

It kind of waters down the name and meaning of being a brony and a true brony musician, being a brony is not to be used as a marketing tool at all.

Yes, I would see how that would be seen as a crude move, but music can come from inspiration, so if one made a song about say, shipping of two ponies, would that not make it pony-related? As they are in fact putting their emotion of a relationship of characters of a specific show, in this case, My Little Pony. And of course the name and picture would act as the dressing of such a thing.

 

 

Keep in mind, it also benefits both the artist getting more recognition and it helps bronies looking for music with an easier search method, of say, posting said song in a topic about brony music, so it's good for both sides and can still be "ethical" as it was a good intention, that is having the song drive inspiration from the show, making it fit in the fandom. (Like OCs and artwork, yeah, I know they're ponies with the same vector/looks, but that's the whole premise, it being derived from the show with emotion)
