New Fanfic Idea - Thoughts?

It would be a HiE drama, but with a twist.

 

Basically, it would be written as if it were a memoir, the journal entries of a British soldier during WWI. It would focus mostly on is dreams, and how he develops because of them, and how his life in the trenches of the Western Front is effected by them.

 

He begins having dreams about Equestria and meeting the Mane 6 (which he obviously wouldn't know by name, being that the events would take place nearly a century before our MLP) becoming more and more detailed and immersive with time, and as his conditions in the waking world's trenches deteriorate, his dreams become more and more like a paradise he is able to escape to from the hell that is his daily life.

I do like the idea of dreams about ponies and then being influenced in real life because of them... but most, if not all, of the lessons taught in My Little Pony could never apply to war in the trenches. It would have to end in a peace treaty of sorts.

I do like the idea of dreams about ponies and then being influenced in real life because of them... but most, if not all, of the lessons taught in My Little Pony could never apply to war in the trenches. It would have to end in a peace treaty of sorts.

This story is going to focus mainly on a theme of escapism and finding paradise in another world away from the hell one is living in, rather than the lessons of MLP itself. Thus why it's HiE. It's going to be a tale of a personal metamorphosis and struggles, not about a soldier somehow bringing the war to an end. It's a story of one soldier jumping into the war, effort and trying to survive, similar to Paul from All Quiet on the Western Front, but with a focus on the character's dreams and the "second life" he lives in his dreams.

 

For some reason this is a lot harder to put into words than it should be, but do you get what I'm getting at?

 

Oh, and I'm going to say it now, this story is NOT going to have a happy ending. Bittersweet at most.

 

However, MLP's lessons will play a role. The reason I picked WWI was because of the 1914 Christmas Truce. The main character is going to play a major role in this event because of his dreams, when it plays out in my story.

In which case, it sounds like a great idea. A battle in his mind... there are so many things that could be done with it. I look forward to reading it if you decide to go ahead with it.

Sounds cool, but I think you need to give some moral lesson since it's very possible. Maybe the "he" come back to the real world and teach the real world about peace that he learnt in Equestria?

Well, at least strengthen the theme. A soldier who dream about Equestria and have fun with mane 6, having some interesting events there, then what?

There will be morals don't worry, especially revolving around the Christmas Truce. A lot of development will be personal, he'll learn to regain his humanity in an environment where life and death lose their meaning.

 

To be honest, beyond that though, it's getting hard to discuss many details without giving away spoilers.

Ooh, and if you do write it, shoot me a PM or something! I am intrigued by this idea. Still, try not to focus too much on the depressing parts of war, and if you do balance it equally with the happiness of Equestria.
