Zygen 6,066 January 16, 2013 Share January 16, 2013 (edited) Ok so if anyone who has been paying attention to my recent posts will know I have been trying to work on a project. First, this is not it . This is going to be used in it. I was actually going to keep it secret and not tell anyone what it is, but I really am terrible at keeping secrets, plus it may take me who knows long . IF you don't want to know what I'm drawing next for whatever reason then SKIP THIS NEXT PART Ok? . Ok so I drew this frontal view of my OC because I plan to have a drawing of my OC along with the rest of the Mane 6 surrounding him, kinda like in the intro at the end for the show, except it'll be more just standard casual poses mostly, nothing fancy, I'll have 3 on each side and my OC in the middle. So I drew this because since my Oc is going to be in the middle, It only made sense to draw this with him facing towards the camera, its my first time doing this so I may not keep it and do another, it all depends on how I feel. The rest of the Mane 6 I'm not totally sure what I'll do, I may just have them facing left and right, or facing left and right turned their heads towards the camera or something.. Anyways enough on that back to this picture Alright, so I drew my OC facing forward, this is the first time I've done any forward shots of any pony's so its a bit new, and thus the drawings kinda rusty... plus I really didn't have an actual reference other then other pony pictures facing forward and trying to think in my own mind how it would look. So it took a bunch of thinking compared to alot of others. I do think it was great practice though. So no reference this time. However heres the picture I've been neglecting and delaying to post until now.. You know the one I drew. that I didn't feel like posting till now? yeah that one . So of course its the same resources and programs and stuff I used as always, my good old GIMP and mouse keyboard. This had some pretty big challanges and wasn't as straight forward layed out for me like in references where I can look at the picture and get a really good idea of what I'm drawing, this one I kinda had to take others and copy certain aspects while understanding why they where that way so it made sense to the picture. I'm sure seeing as this is my first time drawing a forward facing picture there should be plenty of things you can point out, so i'm gonna leave this here(And I'll probably head off to bed shortly to) And let y'all critique away at it to help me learn to do this right . Hope you Have massive eye pains from witnessing this monstrosity enjoy! Edited January 19, 2013 by Zygen 3 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Drahgoon 152 January 16, 2013 Share January 16, 2013 Very nice! I give you props for going out of your comfort zone and doing something different. Drawing new perspective can really be hard, especially with stallions. Only a few things in this one that stand out. The neck is a little thin, and it's also on one side of the body, making him seem lopsided. Pony bodies are also not that round from the front. They are more elliptical and taller. His hair also seems a little too tall. It should be above the curve of the head. The project also seems like a great idea! I'm looking very forward to seeing it. 1 My (old) Art thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/41087-drahgoons-journey-through-art-updated-122212/My Line Art Request Thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/44182-pony-lineart-requests-open/ (Closed)

Yeah, its even harder without having a really good reference for it . I kept thinking the neck had something wrong with it, I wasn't sure if it was just to long or what, I can see how its lopsided and really thin now though. And yeah I may have gone a bit to circlish on the body . It does look odd, kinda makes him look thin. I'm kinda confused on the exactly what you mean on sizing the hair, Its quiet hard to eye, what do you mean by the above the curve of the head? Is there some invisible curve that extends from the head? Or am I thinking about this to much? Or is it extending to far out? Sorry I'm sorta confused with that. And the project will proably take a while and be tough, both because I haven't done something like it before, and its going to require some work, I'm also bad with projects that don't take like 1 sitting to do, since most of the stuff I do is in 1 sitting. However its obvious i'll be doing multiple sittings for this one. Going to probably have to do a couple more draws of my OC to get it right before I move on, I still gotta decide on how I'll set everything up to, guess there might be alot of scrapped drawings and stuff for this . Hopefully seeing the finished product will make it all worth it though . Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! I dunno, the mane looks like it's growing from one side of the head instead of straight down the middle. I also lied about the oval body part. If you're going for show accurate then they are actually circles, but about 3/4 the size of the head. I just personally draw them taller than they are wide. 1 My (old) Art thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/41087-drahgoons-journey-through-art-updated-122212/My Line Art Request Thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/44182-pony-lineart-requests-open/ (Closed)

Oh, yeah i see what you mean. I'm not 100% sure how to fix it, but I plan on hopefully getting some form of work done(And hopefully not procrastinating the whole weekend) during the weekend, which means hopefully I'll be able to fix it somewhat. Aswell as start working on the rest of the mane6 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Harmonic Revelations 8,837 January 18, 2013 Share January 18, 2013 I only see a problem that the lines on the face zig-zag back and forth. And it's not a problem that's hard to fix. Over all I'd say you actually did pretty well on it.
Strawberry Tart 161 January 18, 2013 Share January 18, 2013 Not bad, for a first try! (This is a critique by the way). I really don't like the shape of the head. I'm sorry, but it's all over the place. A pony's head must be oval (and not too oval, mind you). Also, the eyes are too close together, making the head look squashed. The random strip of hair hanging down from the head is confusing - did you forget to finish it, or something? The hair should cover the right side of the neck, so that you can't see part of it. Speaking of the neck, it's too thin but otherwise okay. The body's a little awkward (make it more round), and the front legs are too small. Now that I'm done hating on your drawing, let's get to the ass-pats. The eyes, though too close together, are really good. They look like they have personality and detail. Good job. The top part of the mane is good, too. It "leans" to the left, which is what it is supposed to do. The tail is mostly fine, but make it jut out less. The proportions overall are correct (no tiny heads or gigantic flanks from what I can see), and I noticed that you took the time to shade the back legs (though you might try to shade the rest of it, too). Good job, etc. etc. :3 Seriously. Keep drawin'! Credit to MatrixChicken for Signature Credit to Генерал Четник for Avatar

Good job, etc. etc. :3 Seriously. Keep drawin'! Yeah i had some weird problems with the head feeling wrong myself, I just couldn't seem to fix it much by the time I had bothered to notice it. I'll work on spreading the eyes a bit to, might work out better once i fix proportions and stuff on other things. If I know what your talking about, then the hair that hangs down off his head(A bit over his eyes) Is suppose to be part of the I guess spikey portion of his hair? But honestly I think I confused it up thinking it would be drawn similar to the side view, when I actually think that now thinking about it that it wouldn't show up all from the frontal perspective really..(I'm gonna have to work better on visualizing my perspectives. I redrew the neck like a couple times just because I felt like something was off, for somereason it took me until people started pointing it out to notice how lobsided it is. Its also pretty thin for sure. The body could certainly use work about as much as the head really . And of course I knew I'd end up drawing the legs to small, since every time I draw them I draw them on the small side(I'm always afraid of drawing things to big I guess it seems, or atleast legs .) I think I've finally got the eyes down pretty decently, and honestly they're a bit sketchy in my eyes. The outline of them are a bit woobly and rushed.(Honestly I feel like alot of this was rushed for somereason. Maybe I didn't spend as much time drawing as I though since I was trying to think about how to draw this stuff so much.) I feel like the frontal view's proportions are easier then a side view to do. I guess because its alot more simple shapes or something who knows . I really just shade the back leg because its the only thing I know how to shade .(Since its the only thing in the show that has pictures showing them directly shaded.) And thank you! Both for the critique and the compliments . The whole point of this really was to give me a good idea and list of things to work on so when I have my finished project done it'll be that much better. Besides critique is a really good way to improve, so i'm open to it always . Hopefully I continue to draw for a good bit of time ! 1 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Alot of the time was spent thinking of how to draw it since I don't have reference like I normally do really. Of course I did it all digitally on GIMP with my mouse, I dunno what you use but just felt like saying so incase you didn't know. Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig!
