It was a bright and sunny day in Ponyville. Thunder Dash was checking his mailbox. He found a letter from the Princess stating: "Thunder Dash: It is with great honor to declare that you and three others have been selected to explore a new land beyond Equestria, home to what was known as the Haragian Empire. This is a perilous task. The spirit of the evil emperor still roams there, and it is said that if the spirit senses a strong presence of magic, it will regenerate and the Evil Emperor Xavious will reign terror on Equestria. You must explore the land and if possible destroy the evil spirit of the emperor. Your faithful and loyal Princess, Celestia." 

 

Thunder Dash jumped for joy. He always wanted to be part of an exploration. Little did he know that his true hidden power will be unleashed. He quickly went to Twilight's Library and read up on the Haragian Empire. Unfortunately, there was little about it. 

 

The letter also stated to go to the center of Ponyville Square and wait for the others. "Once the others arrive, come to Canterlot, and I will give you the map to the Haragian Empire." The letter also stated. 

 

So Thunder Dash went to the center of Ponyville Town Square and waited for the others to arrive.

Sandstorm was in a bit of a mood.

He was extremely elated that something was finally happening. After what seemed like months of waiting for the response to his application to the royal guard, he had been approached by Celestia and Luna herself and sked to be on the team of a special mission.

He was getting a little annoyed by the fact that he had to travel to ponyville and then back to canterlot, when he could have just remained where he was in the first place. Also, while he was away, he would have no time to try to ask one of the princesses about his origins, and why out of nearly all the ponies he had met, he alone had both horn and wings.

After more than a few hours sitting in a train car he was already getting a bit antsy, so when the train finally ceased movement and the doors rolled open Sandstorm was already out with his scythe and other supplies on his back. Unfolding his wings, he soared into the open sky and soon located ponyville town square.

Touching down gently as he spotted the pony supposedly leading this whole thing, he meandered over.

"You must be thundedash. Sandstorm"

"Glad to meet you." Thunder Dash said offering a hoof-shake. "So we're just waiting for the other two to come, then it's on to Canterlot. We won't be in Canterlot for a long time. Princess Celestia will give us some final words, a map and then our adventure begins." Thunder Dash said.

Sandstorm stared blankly at the offered hoof before remembering this equestrian tradition. He tentatively took the proffered limb and shook it once, firmly. "Yes, the treasure hunter and the child, yes? If only mother could see me now" Sandstorm's mood darkened as he remembered his other travelling companions, at least the Pegasus in front of him should be competent. However Celestia had her ways of pairing odd groups together and he suspected something else was afoot here.

 

"I am a little saddened we will not be staying longer, I have been trying for a proper audience with the princess for a while now, but alas she is always busy"

Thunder Dash thought to himself. "Ah, a grim past, he's probably very sensitive." 

 

He then started thinking about what the journey had in store for them, what the Haragian Empire had in store for them. He also thought about the evil spirit that lurked. He did have electric abilities, which caused him to be a little bit nervous. 

 

"You may not know this but...I can wield electricity in my body and use magic through it. I have had this ability since I was very young. This is why I was named Thunder Dash." Thunder Dash explained. "So what unique talent do you have?" Thunder Dash asked Sandstorm.

Sandstorm mentally catalogued this information for later.

"I have a few talents of my own. My skill with my scythe is unparalleled, and as a result I find advanced telekinesis easy. I also manipulate the winds. My flying is.. slow, but highly agile. My mark represents my mastery of the winds and I represent thier speed"

Shining Star crashed landed about a few feet from Sandstorm and Thunder-Dash. "Ouch...I really need to work on my landing. They say taking off is the hardest part in flying. When i find out who in equestria said that i will kick them in the flank." She looks around and sees Thunder-Dash and Sandstorm. "Hi, I'm Shining Star, you all must be the other two i am suppose to meet, but do you mind explaining how a filly such as myself came to be selected on a mission of this magnitude?"

Sandstorm glanced over, taking in her diminutive form with a glance.

"Sandstorm, and I personally would love to ask the same question" with just a hint of annoyance. "And taking of Properly is the hardest part, once landing is mastered that becomes nothing but routine"

 

OOC: Not trying to be actively contradictory for the sake of it, just a little bit to set him up as a little skeptical

"Good!" That's two, we've got one more to go." Thunder Dash said. "This is gonna be awesome. I knew this day would come 'cause Equestria is growing by the day. Ponies from as far as Saddle Arabia are moving to Equestia. And it takes 2 months to get to Saddle Arabia, that is, if you're not flying." Thunder Dash said.

"Good!" That's two, we've got one more to go." Thunder Dash said. "This is gonna be awesome. I knew this day would come 'cause Equestria is growing by the day. Ponies from as far as Saddle Arabia are moving to Equestia. And it takes 2 months to get to Saddle Arabia, that is, if you're not flying." Thunder Dash said. 

"So we are being sent out to find areas to grow Equestria into? Wow, that sounds...well i dont know how to put into words, i am just so exited about being hoofed picked for this. Sandstorm? is there something wrong? is something in my mane?" she asks while trying to straighten out her mane

"Well, there is one area Princess Celestia pointed us to look at and that area is where the lost Haragian Empire used to be. They say that the spirit of the evil Emperor who once ruled there still lurks about. But, there is another legend, which I'll discuss once the last member arrives." Thunder Dash said.

"Your mane is fine. Your size is not" Sandstorm "And the flight to saddle Arabia takes fifteen days and thirteen hours, assuming one stops at various towns for supplies and sleeps at most six hours a night" He glanced around at the ponies around them "Where exactly is this treasure hunter?"

"Your mane is fine. Your size is not" Sandstorm "And the flight to saddle Arabia takes fifteen days and thirteen hours, assuming one stops at various towns for supplies and sleeps at most six hours a night" He glanced around at the ponies around them "Where exactly is this treasure hunter?"

What's wrong with my size! Yea i may be small, but that should not matter. And what happens if you are too big to be able to fit in places. You should not judge other ponies on their appearances, but on what they have to offer!" she starts getting mad... to herself "calm down shining, dont get mad, just calm down" she calms down slightly

"I was referring to the fact that you are merely a filly. What Celestia believes she is achieving sending one so young into peril is beyond me" He snorted and pawed at the ground "For a wise ruler, her decisions sure seem to defy much logical thinking".

"Yo Sandstorm, Shining Star's right, although she may be small, she's a tough one, so I advise you not to get her ticked." Thunder Dash warned. He knew that Shining Star had a mysterious power, that could be unleashed at any second. "Where is that other pony? Gah the waiting is killin' me!" Thunder Dash said as he plopped himself on the ground.

Goldseek galloped as fast as he could. "Damnit I'm late!" Running up roads and paths, he eventually saw a group of three. He looked to his letter. They were the ones. "Sorry I'm late. Did I miss anything important?" He looked around at his company. Alicorns and a pegasus. Wait, Alicorns? But... They're royal? And a filly, too.

"Hi, I'm shining star. You must be the treasure hunter. It's so good to meet you, and please don't start about me being young. I got picked to do this and I am going to do this for the greater of equestria. I just love meeting new ponies. This is going to be so much fun." She said while bouncing in a circle.

Sandstorm merely nodded briefly "Sandstorm. and While all royals are alicorns, all alicorns are not royal, though I know so little of my origins I cannot speak for myself, perhaps I am royal" this little joke to himself provoked a small smile "If everyone is here, and ready to go we can be off"

"Good! Now everyone's here. Let's head over to Canterlot, it won't take long flying though. All we need to do is get a map from Princess Celestia and then we're on our way to the new land." Thunder Dash said as he checked his bag for the last time and put it on his back. He then rose into the air. "On to Canterlot." He said.

Sandstorm wordless trotted over to Goldseek and patted him on his bare wingless side

"Its a little more complex than that thunder-dash, we have a floored one here in need of transport" pausing for a moment he considered this problem "I can take him, I may not be the fastest of flyers but I am a strong one, should he deign this acceptable" Sandstorm turned to await Goldseek's response.

"I guess flying will have to do. Though I will warn you I am not the best with heights." He was annoyed at how he was being treated as less for having no wings, but all well. "Also, I don't enjoy being called a 'floored one'." He sighed. Goldseek always hated Canterlot.

"This might do." Thunder Dash said as he concetrated some electricity in his body. He then let it out, which hit Goldseek. He then began to grow true pegasus wings. "Those wings last as long as you want them to. You can now spawn those wings whenever you want. The spell lasts until the quest is done." Thunder Dash said. "That should make things easier, now, on to Canterlot shall we?" Thunder Dash asked.

Goldseek looked at the wings that had sprouted from his back. "Whaaa???" He tested them out. Sure enough, he could use them just like he could use his other limbs. He started slowly flapping his wings, and sure enough started flying. "Well... This is kind of cool."

Sandstorm raised an appraising eye "Be careful with such magic, it have heard it has the tendency to cease functioning after some time" he turned back to Goldseek "And floored-one is a term of respect where I am from, along with winged-one and horned-one, It means one who is stronger and more durable than the rest. In Canterlot they tend to use the term "earth pony". However, if it be your wish, I will refrain from the term"

"No worries, I've been practicing magic for a long time. I've done that spell 50 times already. I actually taught myself how to do and sure enough Princess Celestia herself approved me of using that spell." Thunder Dash said. 

 

Soon, they arrived in Canterlot and went to Princess Celestia's Castle. 

 

Thunder Dash stepped forward and bowed. "Your highness, we are ready." Thunder Dash said. 

 

"Good, now, before you go, I need to give you a map of where the new land is." Princess Celestia said summoning a map with her magic. "The only way to get to the new land is to cut through Saddle Arabia. Otherwise you'll have to face a few extra days going through the Derby Dessert." Princess Celestia said. "I guess we'll cut through Saddle Arabia." Thunder Dash said. "Anything we need to watch out for while going through Saddle Arabia?" Thunder Dash asked. "Well, there is one thing, tension has been rising against the east and west regions. In fact war has been declared so in case you need to stop and rest, there is a small peaceful region in Saddle Arabia, the farthest north of the region." Princess Celestia explained. "Ok, do you know if the Saddle Arabian Air Force is involved?" Thunder Dash asked. "In Saddle Arabia, war is fought on the ground. Only on rare occasions is the Saddle Arabian Air Force brought out." Princess Celestia said. "Alright, is there anything else?" Thunder Dash asked. "Yes, one more thing: Be careful when you enter the Haragian Empire, for the evil spirit lurks there. They say that a strong radiation of magic still lurks there. If the magic is stirred, then the Evil Xavious will be resurrected." Princess Celestia said. "And there's only one way to defeat him, but I do not know that way." Princess Celestia said. "But you must know, you're the one who's sending us out." Thunder Dash said. "I'm sorry, you'll have to figure that out yourself. I really wish I knew." Princess Celestia said with a rather disappointed look on her face. "Oh well." Thunder Dash said. "Good luck and safe travels." Princess Celestia said as Thunder Dash stepped back. "Thank you your highness." Thunder Dash said leaving the throne room. "Well, let's be on our way. It's gonna take two months to get to the new land, since we're cutting through Saddle Arabia." Thunder Dash said, putting the map in his bag.
