The MLP fandom...

I just asked myself today as i was working on a youtube project " how does this fandom became that large? and why?" i mean its just another show is it? what does it make so special? dont get me wrong i watched the whole thing too and im still exited for new episodes and fan made things again and again but i still cant find the answer why im even watching this. bleach and one piece are awesome animes too but i have the feeling that the fandom isnt that large. there are lots of mods of mlp for many famous games like gmod tf2 even minecraft but i never heared that much about one piece or bleach. my thoughts are telling me "what a nice series" but my inner self tells me "why the hell are you watching this its not meant for you!" its strange the series facinates me in his own style but i simply cant tell what it makes so special... i even make pony related videos and drawings by now because of it and i dont know why!... any ideas? anyone?

Yeah, that's something I always wondered. Why is there just SO MUCH content for this show, but not for anything else? Why don't we see huge amounts of fanfic, fanart, fan music, fan games, for, something liks, say, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends? I mean, MLP's a great show, but still. Why it?

Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something?

Well, look at Foster's. The show has a finite developed world (as far as I know, most of the action is in the house, correct?) There isn't much to build off of.

Then look at Star Wars. You have a GALAXY of possibilities with literally limitless freedom to create whatever you want.

For MLP:FiM, it's a combination of both. The show has a developed world but has constantly hinted at and added more content for the fanbase to utilize. In addition it seems (at least to me) that Equestria is a dynamic place. Unlike most cartoons, which are like one-shot episodes and everything is back to normal next Saturday, MLP has plot elements that intertwine with other episodes.

tl;dr Easy creative freedom.

"the masses move people"

Memes rules the internet, and whatever thing that it's on the internet, can be seen by entire world. MLP became a meme because it was a show expected to suck, but it resulted to be quite awesome.

But this is not the reason why the fandom is so large, the phenomenon, the morbidness, the curiousity of how full grown men liked a show with colored ponies that were meant for little girls and not only that, they created a fandom in where they apply all the teachings of the show. MLP was meant not to be taken seriously by the internet, but the opposite happened and more people get attracted to this curiousity even to this day.

One Piece is a FANTASTIC anime (One Piece fan here), but One Piece doesn't bring that controversy factor that MLP does, for example if you see a thumbnail of boobs on a related youtube video you probably would click it. That's MLP situation.

In my case, I always thought that MLP was a good show, but that wasn't the reason why I am a brony today, it was because of the fandom and how passionate they are for what they like.

hm i understand what you mean with starwars (didnt even thought on that XD) but starwars got started by films which were shown in cinemas and mlp only on tv i dont know if you can compare it that good well and one piece... hm i mean its a big world with lots and LOTS of charakters which expands with every new episode too and got movies too like starwars so i still dont know what makes it so special but well thats only my opinion

well even if its not larger it definetly gets mor "hyped" than others i mean look around there are lots of pony related videos on youtube, fanart, fan stories, mods for games and even fan made games! the last time i ve seen a picture of one piece or simething like it in a game (like team fortress or counterstrike) was ages ago rather i see pony pics... and i ever laugh the hell out of me when players get upset by it XD

Just admit it. It's the graphics that bought you into the show in the first place. They're incredibly appealing and I couldn't stop looking at them because they were so...amazing.

That's why there's so much content and such a dominating fandom. Because ultimately, this art is incredibly attractive, and I find it so strange, but I can't stahp myself. It's just the way of life. The plot and crud is good too, but again, it ultimately falls on the beautiful work of Lauren Faust and how she drew these ponies.
