planning Toon - the Cartoon Roleplaying Game

Have any of you heard of "Toon?"  It is a pen-and-paper roleplaying game that was created a few decades ago by Steve Jackson games.  The basic idea is that you play a cartoon character, like something out of classic Looney Tunes.  You have skill levels, hit points, special cartoony abilities, and so on.  Instead of dying, characters just "Fall Down," and miss a few turns before coming back into the game.

I think that this game would be great for doing a "My Little Pony" roleplay.  I could play the part of the game master - known as the Animator - and set the scene for the players.  Then the players could make posts telling me what they want their characters to do.  I would then roll dice and determine what happens next, based on character skill levels and so forth.

Would there be any interest in this?

Hey there.  I used to play TOON years ago.  Somewhere in all the books and magazines stacked up downstairs, I still have a book or two from it.

I'm not entirely sure that a forum-based TOON game would work, mainly because half the fun of it is the spontaneity that happens in a live tabletop environment.  I also don't think I'd be able to commit much time to it myself.  But if you get this thing rolling, I'd be willing to give it a try. :)

I wish I could have an opinion on that.  I never never successfully gotten a group of enthusiastic people to play in person.

My dad used to Animate some cartoon shorts for a D&D group a long time ago, and these people were INTO it. :). So I'm probably a little jaded - I tried to Animate a session myself many years later, and it was a disaster.

I'm certainly not saying it couldn't be done online. I just wasn't sure if it would lend itself as well to online forum-based play just because, at least in my own experience, it seemed to benefit from improvisation and NOT carefully planning your next move.

If you can get a game going, I'd be happy to give it a try, with the caveat that I may not be able to devote solid chunks of time to it due to job and real life and such.
