Over the Internet, and often in real life as well, it's incredible difficult to distinguish satire from genuine stupidity or offensiveness. Emoticons help, but then again emoticons are stupid.

You really didn't give that many valid options. I mean, there's a "like" and "hate" and the rest are attempts at jokes, not really having anything to do with the content that's to be discussed. :/

 

I love satire. I think it's a great way of getting a point across, if done without bias and done properly, which is rare. I'm currently writing a satire about brand loyalty, human stupidity, and whistleblowing for my English class. *laughs*

Heh, guess Satire is winning so far then.

 

As for my personal feelings, it can be hard to convey in text form, unless the audience is very familiar with you. For example, if a well-known poster on here was to go on an anti-Brony rant, I'm sure everyone, save for maybe a few, would get that it's satire.

 

But if it's just some random website, it can be hard to tell.

 

And for the love of Celestia yes, Meta, emoticons do indeed stink.
