I've recently taken a liking to Sonic x Rainbow Dash shipping

Note: I am not usually a shipper. Usually doesn't interest me beyond canon shipping (or pseudo-canon shipping like Spike x Rarity stuff) but being such a huge Sonic fan and of course being a brony this pairing fascinated me. I took it upon myself to look up Sonic x Rainbow Dash on Google for something else and started coming across shipping pictures like racing or if they were dating and it just seemed kinda right. Maybe it's the speed, maybe it's their "too cool" attitudes, maybe it's just cuz their both blue but it just seems to fit.

 

I wish there was a more reliable source for pony pictures. Google gives you everything but the kitchen sink

but it's not specific enough because of the way it searches for things. There's always Deviantart but it more or less has the same issues where either there's not enough of something specific or none of it is what you're looking for because the search terms are too broad for DA to understand exactly what you're looking for. (Darn technology and it's need for specifics! Says the programmer)

 

So, my questions are thus:

 

Anyone know of any good sites to get good contextual pictures like this or do I just have to get lucky on Google and DA?

 

Anyone else a fan of this pairing? Why?

 

I'm not much of a fanfic reader myself but might potentially read a short one for this.

Sorry, but I never really understood the proper term for "shipping". Does it mean a normal fictional relationship created by a fan, or does it specifically mean porn/r34 of these 2 characters?

 

The term is a bit ambiguous but it basically means putting the two together in a relationship. What that means changes from person to person and to some it's porn, to some it's just a relationship even a cutesy middle school type one.

I mean if you're gonna ship Rainbow Dash, ship her with another pony...or me...that works too...

 

I really don't find it that weird. Wouldn't be the first time a series made a crossover and I've seen lots of Sonic x Rainbow Dash stuff (though not necessarily shipping) so I'm certain it's a fairly popular fanon thing.

 

But yes, really. Being a fan of both I find it an interesting concept, especially with Sonic who can jump from world to world thanks to warp zones so he could very well end up in the MLP universe.

 

What's the harm in a little fun conceptualizing? :P

 

Hell, not even necessarily in a relationship or just a friendship. It's there for the purpose of comparing two characters and how they would interact with each other. Just the concept of Sonic and Rainbow Dash interacting with each other in various ways is fun to imagine whether they be racing, dating or just doing general fun stuff together.

I see them more as buddies, Sonic isn't really the romance type at all, to me they don't have similar personalities either aside from competitiveness

I'd say their personalities are actually quite similar. the only thing that's fundamentally different is that Sonic has a bit of a justice streak and Rainbow Dash is a bit more selfish.

That's sort of a weird pairing if you ask me.I'd think if,by some cosmic chance,the two would meet up with each other,they would just be really good friends.Both RD and Sonic don't seem the romantic kind of characters to me.

 

Though I won't lie,I would love to see how Amy would react to a SoniDash pairing.

Gohan and Fluttershy would make the perfect couple.

Just think about it. They're both timid, polite, animal-loving characters who will quickly turn into your wosrt nightmare if you piss them off.

 

Goshy is best ship.

 

 

 

Don't worry guys, I'm kidding. Besides, Flutterdash is best ship.

The point of fanon is to push your own ideals onto something, is it not? Technically speaking in a fictional universe the characters are controlled by writing and imagination and it wouldn't be THAT surprising to find two people who were interested in the same things would fall for each other. I'm a romantic deep down so I can't help but see a potential relationship in it but as you said it could never amount to anything but a friendship either. It all depends on the imagination of the person viewing it. 

 

Seems to me people try to use real life logic too much when thinking about a fictional universe, so much so that anything that is even remotely out of the box seems to be met with extreme ridicule. There are many people who don't like fanon at all and prefer things to stay self-contained and I kinda understand that but I just have such a wild imagination that I can't help what I like. :P

Hey man, it could work. The power of imagination and good art/writing skills can make anything work and look good. :lol:

 

Who knows, maybe someday I could get the oomph to write somethin' about this stuff. My writing skills are a bit rusty though.

I don't know if it might work out. I know they are both fast & competitive but, they are from two different worlds.

Maybe, it could make a good shipping in fan fictions.

 

Well of course it'd be a work of fanfiction. There's nothin' canon about it but that's precisely what I'm saying: fanon is often derived from a thought that is not a part of the original writing. Often changing personalities or backstories to fit better with what the writer has in mind.

 

Sonic could still make it to the MLP Universe because of his ability to warp to other dimensions so you could still say that fanonically it can still happen. Or you could throw in a deus ex machina to get them together somehow even if it's totally unrelated to both universes. The beauty of imagination is that it doesn't have to adhere to the rules of a canonical universe. :P

If you speak of reproducing, weren't centaurs already enough? Image what their descendants would look like xD

 

In a world of fantasy, anything is possible. There are no rules. :P

 

Besides, even if you thought of reproduction would they reproduce by having hybrids or just switching from one species to the other? Why is an alicorn not born when a unicorn and pegasus have a kid? :lol:
