Bucky McGillyCuddy 956 April 6, 2013 Share April 6, 2013 Am I the only one who thinks that the curriculum i'm being taught is complete rubbish? I studied at University for 2 years doing Graphic Design and i honestly couldn't believe how impractical the work was. The theory to practical work was un-freaking-believable, for example a piece of assessment for one class was to design two logo's for a two different companies and accompany each logo with a 2000 word brief on why you designed it the way you did plus another 1000 words on the elements of design (which is easy enough) but 2000 fucking words each!? The logo designs themselves were only worth 35% of the marks lol. If you think I'm overreacting let me know but that's just complete overkill. I've decided i'm not going to bother finishing the third year. I'm better of polishing up my skills and doing freelance work. I son't think it's such a big deal in high school But when your at uni paying thousands upon thousands of dollars each term and taking Visual Art classes where the lecturer openly says he couldn't draw to save his life and laughs about it it get's pretty hard to put up with. It's not every class though my animation class was pretty good. Do you have the same issue? What are you studying and how practical is the assessment? 1 If you'd be so kind as to check out some of my drawings, I would really appreciate feedback. http://mlpforums.com/topic/82464-feedback-is-magic/?hl=feedback+is+magic#entry2127254 http://mlpforums.com/topic/82871-what-happens-when-a-pony-fights-a-griffin/?p=2178588
9x18 24 April 6, 2013 Share April 6, 2013 (edited) Word counts always bothered me (quality over quantity, right?), but the assigned topics seem like important theory on the university level. It is important to not only have good results, but to understand why the work/results are good and how to consistently create such things in the future. That's just inherent to a B.A./B.S. level education. While I was in undergrad, there was a lot of theory studied in my engineering program. However, when I got out into the "real world", I felt terribly unprepared. Only in hindsight can I now see that the practical application was minimal or non-existent. In today's world where college degrees are expected for many careers, this seems like a massive oversight. The education I received adequately prepared me for advanced degrees, but wasn't great for jumping straight into industry. pyrofirestorm 2 April 6, 2013 Share April 6, 2013 The quality of my High School is...... CRAP so uh ya uh meh. The teachers aren't the brightest except for Mr. Campbell who is pretty boss and Ms. Perez-Abreu.
Sky Warden 2,243 April 6, 2013 Share April 6, 2013 Even though the vocational school I'm studying engineering in is considered as the best vocational school in my nation, I dare to say the the stuff taught there are junk. The school's vision and mission are to make its students work-ready in professional level. Here, students will be distributed to companies for jobs, and they will always get one. Even so, the things taught are just basic stuff, at least in the computer engineering class I'm studying. They only teach the basic, like what is A and how to configure it in Debian for example. In the next year, they only move to configure A in FreeBSD. What's the bucking important difference? They only teach how to set network routing, web server, etc. Only that. They don't actually teach on how to make a great server with awesome performance and formidable security. They just teach us how to make a regular server. What I'm expecting is something like how to secure our server from shell injection, or whatever, but they don't teach it. The students need to look for the things they feel like they need to know by themselves. The sad part is, more than half of students in my class aren't interested in studying more. They just think that what have been taught at school will be enough, which is ridiculously wrong. That's just the network part. The programming part is even worse. They don't teach the algorithm. Well, they did it for a brief month in the first grade, when we didn't even have any idea about what is that thing. They just teach us "the steps on how to make a software for a cashier." The worst part, they use the wrong method in teaching us programming. Such terrible curriculum forces me to study more by myself. Not just me, but my best friends in the class (which is just a small group) too. They study what takes their interest. One studies network security and hacking. One studies server thingy. I, and another one friend of mine, study programming. I'm the only one who study advanced database and software programming. Even though I've learned so many things, I still have a long list of what to learn next to make sure that I'm good enough to get a job. I'm a little worried about my other class mates. They don't study more than what's taught at school. They say it to me by themselves. The point is, the curriculum is terrible. Pinkeh asked me to put this here. Just another What Do You Think About Me stuff.

Bucky McGillyCuddy 956 April 6, 2013 Author Share April 6, 2013 I am watching walking dead and this is more important than walking dead Good sir nothing is more important than the Walking Dead. Close this tab immediately and continue watching! It's rather good to see that i'm not the only one who has to put up with it. I just wish i left earlier so i didn't have a huge bill like i do now If you'd be so kind as to check out some of my drawings, I would really appreciate feedback. http://mlpforums.com/topic/82464-feedback-is-magic/?hl=feedback+is+magic#entry2127254 http://mlpforums.com/topic/82871-what-happens-when-a-pony-fights-a-griffin/?p=2178588

Lisa 5,553 April 6, 2013 Share April 6, 2013 (edited) 2000 fucking words each! 2000?! I've done barely anything near that. At the moment I'm writing a 1100 word exam.. but... WOAH. I thought my work was tough. And also, it'd be hard explaining in 2000 words why you designed it on how you did. ~Luna Edited April 6, 2013 by DJ Luna♥
pyrofirestorm 2 April 6, 2013 Share April 6, 2013 for realsies 2000 words what da hell I am a freshman and I feel like a preschooler due to the 2 year old style work that our teachers give us.
