Killian Jones 2,655 April 7, 2013 Share April 7, 2013 (edited) Something I noticed that kind of bugs me a lot. Is that Date Times on the forum are in American notation. This is confusing for anyone not using the system and not used to it. Currently there is a Calendar event scheduled in my eyes for the 5th of March. Which in reality you mean the 3rd of May. All this does is create confusion. I'm asking for either an option to change the way. It is extremely inconvenient. Either make it an option for people to change or use the ISO standard https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8601 Good idea? King 5,625 April 8, 2013 Share April 8, 2013 (edited) It's not difficult to comprehend the American system, just swap day and month around. I wouldn't call it extremely inconvenient at all, in fact it's probably more inconvenient for the staff to try and find a way to change it, then it is for us to get used to it. IT would cause more issues to find a way to change it, then it would to leave it as it is. Trust me it's not hard to learn it Plus I dont even know if its possible... ProjectRKA 2,848 April 8, 2013 Share April 8, 2013 An option to change the date format is a better idea, in my opinion, than to just have one strict date format.
Killian Jones 2,655 April 8, 2013 Author Share April 8, 2013 @, Considering you have no problem with the format, it can be very confusing, especially on lower dates (under the twelth of the month) because I am used to reading all my dates day, month, year. And it's especially confusing for people to use a format which doesn't make much sense and have to constantly recheck dates to make sure you got the right one. And I severely doubt it's not an option in IPS, I'm pretty sure you can change it whatever you like. It only really affects the calendar. Lastly I mentioned the ISO standard because even though it's different from mine and yours, that's the accepted way to write dates, even in databases online, so dates currently have to be converted to US format. And Also I don't want to specifically push my date format on others. We all need to learn to use standards.

But It's really not that hard to understand, plus pretty much all computers and mobile devices have there own date system, so why do we really need to change the one on the site? I can see where you're coming from, but I dont think too many people have this complaint. Id be fine if it did get changed, don't get me wrong, but I think it would be very low on the "to do list" of the site... Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,526 April 8, 2013 Founder Share April 8, 2013 The option in IPB exists to adjust the date format globally. Currently, I've set it to the North American way because we're a Canadian site. I'm not too particularly attached to it, though, so I'll be happy to change it to ISO 8601 after this class. 3 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi
