Ear Epiphany

As mentioned in the alliteration title for this topic, I have realised something: the ears of almost all the female pony characters, even Chrysalis, have their manes tucked behind their ears and not over their ears. Normally, woman who have long hair let their hair go over their ears and only tuck it behind their ears when it's in a ponytail or bun. So why haven't we seen any mares or colts with their manes over their ears and secondly, how come no one realises this in the first place? I might be silly suggesting this, but that's what I think

I personally think it's so that you can see their face easier or something along those lines. For example, most of the ponies with large hairstyles, such as Rarity or Fluttershy, have one side tucked while the other goes over their eye. It's probably so that you can more easily see their face from the side.

Or it could just be the norm in pony society to do so. After all, their society, while a facsimile of human society, does differ from ours in many ways.

Hhhmm,i never thought about this. That must be the art style for the mares,i guess.Or maybe none of them like to have the mane in front of their ears :/.

Well, pony ears and more pointed than human ears. Its harder to get hair around it and have it actually look good, so instead they tuck all of it behind their ears.

Yeah I agree with you, besides the ponies do look a lot better with their manes out of way. :D btw U've got a point with the society differing from ours.

I think it has to do with the positioning of the ears at the top fo the head rather than at the sides like on people- it's going to be harder to pull off the over the ears look when the ears are on top.

Besides, I think it helps make sure that the hair looks more like a mane rather than a head ofhuman hair.

It's the way the mane is grown down a horse/ponies' neck. Instead of it all growing directly on top of their head, it starts growing there and grows all down their neck as well.

Besides, with their ears covered it would look weird as heck.

I think it's because horses in real life hardly have hair like humans'. Even though these ponies have many human qualities, I don't think the animators want it to be too human.

Also, most humans have hair growing in front of their ears anyway. Ponies, however, do not.
