Where to post ponyfics?

Hey everypony! So I've got a plan for an adventure-style ponyfic starring Princess Twilight and the other Mane Six. I have all of the 9 (?) chapters blocked out already, finished typing one and have up to chapter 3 written. My question is, how and where do I begin posting this so that it starts getting views? I suppose I could start with this forums here but I would love for it to eventually get to EQD or FiMFiction (I know I'm probably shooting too high to start). I'm basically just using Word but I could slap it onto Google Docs and maybe on my Deviant Art? I hope to have cover art of some kind for it made but would I need that right away? Also should I post it chapter by chapter and see what ponies say or the whole thing at once when it's done? Any help is appreciated.

Well, first, yeah, you're right, Octavia's Hall here on the forums (in the fanfic subsection) is a great place to start, definitely will get some views there.  Next, you do have to submit to get on EQD, but you don't have to do so to get it on FimFiction.  All you have to do is register on FimFiction, then you can post your fic once it gets approved by the admins there.  Simple as that!  That's definitely the best place to go to post any fanfictions you come up with.  Let me know how everything goes! 

 

Edit: Sorry, forgot your other questions.

 

1) You don't need any cover art for fics here, completely unnecessary, but you might want cover art once you post on FimFiction.

 

2) Definitely post it chapter by chapter, especially if you haven't had any editors look at it yet.  Also, once you do post on FimFiction, whenever you upload chapters from then on, you can also just start a thread about the new chapter here in Octavia's Hall and provide a link to FimFiction in the thread's OP instead of posting the entire chapter in a thread.

If you want to post it here, I'd post it as a blog or in the fan-fic section of Octavia's hall.

 

I think you should maybe put it on Deviant Art  so other artists can see it, so you can get that cover picture. There are also lots of artists here on the forums that may be willing to help...

FimFiction is optional. There are good people and stories there but on a story I posted I got very offensive and pointless comments saying, "Not sure if you're high or trolling." "My eyes were bleeding." "No just no! This is total---" You get the picture. I'm not happy about that site and even trashed a friend that stood up for me. I want feedback, not offensive comments. 

 

Anyway, If you get any comments like that, DELETE THEM. If they get mad because of it, ignore them. I'm writing a much better fanfic already. But as @Batbrony said, Octavia's Hall is a good place. I can't wait to see your fanfic though. Sorry if I get anypony mad, I just wasn't happy after all that happened.

Like Batbrony said, The forums and Fimfiction are the way to start, if you have a Deviant Art account then by all means, post it there as well. As for the chapters, you might want to upload them one at a time, and leave some time in between for advice and criticism so you'll  have the occasion to edit and improve the next chapters before posting them. For EQD, you'll have to be patient, wait until your fic gets some attention and you're satisfied with what it has become, then try submitting it there. 

You did spark my interest by mentioning cover art, I'd like to hear your ideas for that.

Thanks everypony. Think I will start a post in the Hall and maybe get a FimFic account. I'll do it chapter by chapter as well. At the quickest I'll be able to upload at least one a week but that may be pushing things depending on if I get stuck (although I have a great deal figured out already). I'm proofreading the first chapter once again and maybe I'll post it in the Hall tonight or tomorrow.

Octavia Hall section, Fan Fiction sub section, in this forum. Unless you're sure that you're professional and that you write very good, go to FimFiction. I'm not saying that FimFiction is a place for professional. I'm just saying that FimFiction is a harsh place where half of the population are unskilled cruel ponies who only know how to insult. Just like @Sonicrules831 said, those people won't give you constructive criticism. If they do, they will do it cockily, with some rude statements to show how bad you are.

 

I recommend you to post in this forum. Make a Google Doc, write it there and paste the link on your post. Don't write it in your post or put it in a spoiler. The formatting may go horrible. Just a link to your Google Doc.

 

Oh, you can look for lovely and friendly (and the most important, cuddle-able) proof readers in this forum, instead of cocky and think-they-know-everything-about-writing proof readers in FimFiction.

That's probably the best idea I've heard and relatively easy. I had no idea FiMFiction had such a reputation. I should be able to start posting soon, as soon as I tweak the title a bit.

You're welcome. I just don't want more writers get heart broken and decide not to write again just because of their ignorant comments.

 

Equestria Daily is the right meter to see how good your fan fiction is. You can post it here first, and if it gets good feedbacks, you can try shooting to EqD.

 

People here are nice, and because of the forum rules, you won't get any insult here. I can guarantee that. Only constructive criticism you will get here.

 

Ah, yes. If you need some cuddle-able proof readers, check the Creative Resource section in the Octavia Hall. :3
