Basically the general make up of the Equestrian population as a whole, say in terms of percentage of pony race, age, gender, birth rate, etc. I will most likely post mine here soon, I just want to know what you guys think first.

Actually my interest goes further than the basics you raised into -- how many ponies exist in equestria?  How big is the country of equestria?  How many ponies live in cities like Cloudsdale or Manehattan vs how many live outside any town on the map?  How much larger is the world than equestria? etc.

Well, yeah, most of those are a given in what I said, though the demography refers to the population, not the geographic size and structure of the country.

i imagine that Equestria is made up of only ponies mostly. Atleast as far as ones living there that are sentient.

Others just come from other kingdoms I guess.

I suppose the ponies are just split 3 ways. 33% Earth pony 33% pegasi 33% Unicorn and 1% Alicorns.

The official map depicts Equestria as some aliened form of the United States. I'd assume it's ~5 to 10 million square kilometers, if scaling up to the USA and Earth. It don't seems to be densely populated, maybe less than 5 people per km².

The map looks a bit "abstract" to me, surely it's not to scale, there have to be hundreds to thousands more villages, towns and cities togetherm, beside those shown.

Due to the FIM world's pre-industrial state cities can't have that many inhabitants, Ponyville may have some hundreds, Canterlot less than ten thousand, Cloudsdale a few thousand too, while Manehatten, Baltimare, Los Pegasus, Fillydelphia etc. if a bit like their real-world counterparts several thousand (more than a dozen thousand) inhabitants, too.

In medieval age for example, Europe's populace ranged from 30 to 80 million, which is 3 to 8 per square kilometer. Most people lived in villages and small towns, the cities had a few thousand inhabitants most times. At one time the largest city in the Holy Roman Empire was Cologne with ~20K inhabitants. Paris had 80K at the dawn of renaissance and Venice peaked at ~180K in the 17th century.

Equestria is just one land, others shown and/or mentioned are the three pony tribes old homelands, the griffon, dragon and minotaur homelands, Zecora's country, Saddle-Arabia, the Changeling Kingdom and maybe Crystal Empire which seems to be a semi-autonom region/city like Hong Kong and Taiwan.

I may as well give my views.

I think Equestria is the size of Texas+Oklahoma based on the speed to get to the crystal empire, the time it takes pegasi to get to and from Fillydelphia and Los Pegasus and the way they treat trips to Manehattan etc.

I think the population of Equestria is around 300,000 ponies.

I think a surprising number of ponies live in the cities -- Well over half.

I think equestria is but a very small fraction of equuis, under 10% of the landmass.

As for pony types I think it is around 50% earth ponies 35% unicorns 15% pegasus.

Gender I go about 80% mares 20% stallions which is what keeps down the birth rate.

Pony type wise I think it's even. There seems to be " pony type specific" places for instance Cloudsdale is Pegasus only, Canterlot is primarily unicorns and Manehatten is what mainly Earth Ponies from what I gather.

Genders are a different story. The gender ratio funds to be out of control ma m with mares outnumbering stallion 3 to 1.

This seems to be way to small, Equestria is the most important country on the entire world (planet Equus?). Travel times are very inconsistent within the show, I think they're no good indicator for distances. 300,000 ponies are to few if the land's size is bigger. We don't know how big the planet is, if it's an aliened ponyfied version of Earth, with Equestria a form of the USA in geography and history, well USA is 10M km² of 150M km², that ~7% of Earth's landmass.

In pre-industrial societies most people live on the land not cities, maybe 70% land/villages and 30% in cities. Pegasi seem to be the most numerous race, with earth ponies second and unicorn third.
