Descant 1,898 May 16, 2013 Share May 16, 2013 (edited) To be honest with you, I would love an episode like that. The fandom might erupt over it, but really, that sounds like a moral most bronies really need to hear anyway. Change isn't bad. It happens whether you want it to or not. FoxyCryptid 4,330 May 16, 2013 Share May 16, 2013 I don't think a "take that" is order, but I think we do need a moral about change and how someone earning their place in the world doesn't change who they are. Maybe a episode showing how Celestia isn't that much different from everyone else despite being a Princess. 1 "You know, I don't know who or what you are Methos, and I know you don't want to hear this, but you did teach me something. You taught me that Life's about change, about learning to accept who you are, good or bad. And I thank you for that." -Duncan McLeod.

Maybe a episode showing how Celestia isn't that much different from everyone else despite being a Princess. Part of why I love MLP is that the morals aren't so much about somebody getting just desserts or paying for their grievances as much as it is about characters taking something away from their experiences. This is probably why I dislike Mysterious Mare Do Well and Just For Sidekicks: those episodes are mean to the people learning the lesson. This "take that, bronies!" idea would just be that. Teach an actual, legitimate lesson first, and then have that subtext of "Twilight and her friends will never change, so chillax, bro" come through. 1 Onwards to my DeviantArt page! Veylon 255 May 16, 2013 Share May 16, 2013 Maybe such an episode could end with Rainbow Dash writing her own adventure book. That she's grown in the literary world from appreciation to critical analysis to creation. First she'd be surprised and outraged and complain to all her friends (who rapidly get sick of it), then she confronts the author, who firmly refuses to be cajoled or bullied into "fixing" things, and finally she realizes that the only way the stories she wants will be on paper is if she puts them there herself. She'd show it off to her friends, who'd be impressed that her dedication led her to do such a thing. You could close with an image of her putting her book on the shelf with a bunch of the Daring Do novels that inspired it.
Dr. Eggnog 203 May 16, 2013 Share May 16, 2013 Dunno if I like the idea of a meta-episode, but an episode where Rainbow is disappointed by the latest Daring Do book sounds cool. I love you.
Radiance64 7,053 May 17, 2013 Share May 17, 2013 They're already being meta- you can't tell me that lines like "Everything's gonna be just fine!' In Magical Mystery Cure and 'I am excited, but I'm a little nervous too!' from the Equestria Girls are mere coincidences(Twilight is most meta pony)? No, I believe the show creators are already commenting on the fanbase in their own way like this and they're awesome at it. I would like an episode like this though(if not just for the return of Daring Do) and it wouldn't surprise me for a second if it actually did happen. Akemi Homura 7,681 May 17, 2013 Share May 17, 2013 I am ambivalent. I do not think the primary audience needs this idea, as Dark Qiviut stated above, and would be awkward for the general viewers to walk into all of the controversy all because the writers wanted to shed some light on it. There is no real goal that can't be achieved otherwise by just sucking it up and dealing with the circumstances. Heck, making "us" deal with it sounds smug enough. As a fanbase we have to accept change and plot twists when they come (so as long as they don't deviate from the winning formula that made FIM successful in the first place) but taking unconscious shots at the very fandom that stemmed from the series sounds a bit too much for my liking. Tone down the dramatics and let things unfold. Some of us need to stop letting overreactions dictate our judgement. It's not the end of the world and FIM will be fine. As for Equestria Girls, I learned to take trailer content with a grain of salt because one minute comprised of jumbled scenes is just what it's supposed to be doing: trying to hook people in. You're not obliged to like it. It won't mean a thing if you don't like the product when you see it in its entirety!
