Is Canon Equestria Open Minded To Xenophilia?

Canon: Case in point Spike (note Spike is a little underage) having a crush on Rarity and everypony knows about it. But nopony seems to care.

 

So does that mean Ponies would date other non Pony sapient races with no one to discriminate them?

 

Since Equestria is home to more than one sapient race Xenophilia is realistically 100% guaranteed. It would be the exact same result if there were sapient MLP FIM Ponies other sapient races in our Human world. 

 

Non Canon: If Equestria in another parallel universe was intolerant (extremely intolerant) of Xenophilia they would immediately execute Spike for having a crush on Rarity and call it bestiality.

Hmm, I've always assumed that Equestria would be extremely tolerant to Xenophilia (Maybe because that would make me one happy camper), but I guess considering the Spike and Rarity thing it could very well be a possibility. 

I don't think the reverse would be possible though. I think if Ponies existed (multiverse theory), and somehow found their way to Earth, the world governments wouldn't give them a very warm welcome. They'd probably be detained and questioned/experimented on, and may be considered a danger to the population.

However, if Ponies were integrated with Human society, I doubt everyone would accept them, with Pony/Human relationships discriminated against and hate crimes commuted. Still, bearing this in mind, I'd definitely try to pursue a relationship with Vinyl

I feel that the ponies simply see Spike's crush on Rarity as childish and not something that would escalate to a romance. So I don't think that it's necessarily relevant.

 

Of course, it could be argued that if they are EXTREMELY xenophobic (not sure if the term actually applies) they'd do something against the very notion of Spike getting ideas. But it may be the case that if there is a xenophobia, it's not strong enough to elicit a response to his "childish crush".

 

But we really have no indication in the show towards how the ponies feel about relationships with other species. That's what fanfics and fanart are for.

I believe that they are, like you said, no one cares that Spike has a crush on Rarity. Equestria is home to all kinds of sapient beings- Zebras, dragons, Changelings (don't know if they really count), donkeys, mules, etc.

I do not believe Humans are monsters nor do I believe the Krogan from the Mass Effect. Even though the Krogan nearly wiped out all life on their home world in a nuclear war

 

So, there is the chance (maybe multiverse theory) we get something like in the clopfic Gentleman For Mares happening on Earth between us Humans and MLP FIM Ponies.

 

But you know what I believe are monsters: The Darkspawn (from Dragon Age) The Reapers from Mass Effect, and the The Conversion Bureau abominations of our lovely MLP FIM Ponies. 

 

 

All three (The Darkspawn, Reapers, The Conversion Bureau Ponies) have one thing in common, they are nonnegotiable and remorseless monsters that commit xenocide, even if the people beg for mercy and peace.

Maybe it should be noted that Ponyville citizens are VERY unfriendly towards Zecora in the beginning.

Of course she didn't help very much walking around fully covered like she's going to stab somepony in the back.

 

It's not related to romance, but it has a component of xenophobia.

 

On the other hand, Gilda doesn't have any problem around.

The ponies' reactions to non-ponies are interesting. While it seems that the average pony had no problems with Spike, Gilda, and Iron Will, several ponies treated Iron Will in a racist manner (calling him a monster), and although it's played for laughs the 'no offense' jokes made about donkeys and mules are uncomfortably close to racist jokes in real life.

 

And then there's Zecora. That reaction was way out of scale relative to their reactions to other non-ponies. I have a theory on that: that it wasn't technically racism. It was an extremely strong reaction to the Uncanny Valley. Zecora looks like a pony, or at least something very like a pony, but must have something that makes her obviously *not*. This may have triggered an instinctual rejection, maybe based on racial memory of primitive changelings that could get close to looking like a pony but not quite right.
