Forlong 1,726 June 10, 2013 Share June 10, 2013 Okay, I've had some free time today, so I decided to calculate the statistics of Equestria. First, a few things to clarify. I could not include all the characters from the Hearths Warming Eve play because their genders are unclear, except for the Unicorn King (for obvious reasons) and Princess Platnium (for equally obvious reasons). We can't be sure if the ponies were all the same gender as the ponies protraying them. I also couldn't count any of the Royal Guards, save Shining Armor, because it's almost impossible to tell the difference between them. They're like Storm Troopers. If your curious, in order for Shining Armor to be a Captain, there has to be 80-250 Royal Gaurds. I was able to clearly identify 711 ponies. Alicorns: 0.7% (5 ponies) Unicorns: 19.7% (140 ponies) Pegusi: 23.6% (168 ponies) Earth: 56% (398 ponies) Where are all the unicorns anyway? How 'bout male-to-female ratio? HA! I can do better than that. I have the ratio for each breed of pony. Alicorns Male: 0 (0%) Female: 5 (100%) Unicorns Male: 48 (34.3%) Female: 92 (65.7%) Pegusi Male:51 (30.4%) Female: 117 (69.6%) Earth Male: 155 (39%) Female: 243 (61%) Total Male: 254 (35.7%) Female: 457 (64.3%) And, just for fun, let's do it the other way around. What presentage of the guy are of each breed, and same with the ladies? Male Alicorns: 0% Unicorns: 18.9% Pegusi 20.1% Earth: 61% Female Alicorns: 1.1% Unicorns: 20.1% Pegusi: 25.6% Earth: 53.2% So not only to the mares outnumber the stallions, but there is more diversity expressed in them. And the Earth ponies have all other breeds heavily outnumbered. Why were they the subservient tribe? 4 Check out my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5qXAcUzrizEHvorGalU5jg?feature=watch
Cwanky 17,747 June 10, 2013 Share June 10, 2013 This video by digibrony best summarizes my views on the topic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNuto85rL4E In sum, its not necessarily that Equestria is lacking in pony stallions, but perhaps rather that we don't see them as often as the show presents to us. There are numerous clips including those in the video that show equal or greater representation of stallions. The issue can be boiled down to flawed or biased polling. The sample size of pony stallions may simply be underrepresented in a lot of shots, so we're led to believe that there are less stallions than there really are. Its similar to oversampling conservative voters and undersampling liberal and moderate voters or vice a versa. It might just also be simply that all the stallions are busy at work or its not their active hour or hangout spot. The same sampling can be said regarding the earth, pegasi and unicorn pony statistics. We simply don't have enough information to make conclusive results either way. I will admit though that the show is seriously lacking in background stallions not to mention male characters and also male supporting characters. The few we see like Big MacIntosh and Shining Armor simply don't get nearly enough screen time to develop.
