When the good guys win *Written Thoughts*

Just a quick question/thought shared, do you guys get a good feeling when the good guys win?

In this sense in reference to Season 2 Ep12 Family Appreciation Day or any other episodes where Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon are the instigators with one of the 3 younger ponies (Apple Bloom, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle)

When they insult Apple Bloom for having a shameful Granny, then in the end it turns out without Granny Smith her and her father would be nothing. There is also another point in a episode with the Cutie Mark Crusaders where they both end up being singled out and told off, which as a classic bully, once told off are unsure what to do.

Another example is with Gilda (The Griffin) when even her friend, Rainbow Dash turns against her and disproves of her because of her attitude.

Not too much of a topic here, more of a thought I decided to share.

Does anyone else find this the highlight of a show, the face that the ponies are able to disprove those who said they can't or aren't good enough? Would like to hear your thoughts (:

I most certainly get a good feeling when the good guys win in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. That show does an excellent job of revealing evil's inherently self-destructive nature, which seems to be a lost bit of wisdom in today's society that often favors pessimism.

The entire show does a great job of this, but one of the most powerful examples is The Crystal Empire. Despite the fact that King Sombra was clearly one of the most powerful unicorns ever, the evil nature of his magic resulted in his own downfall. To evil magic, or to generalize, to evil or negativity in general, there are inherent qualities of selfishness and ignorance that inevitably work against a person who cherishes such things.

I also find King Sombra to be an intriguing character. It is obvious that he is intelligent - if he were not, he would be unable to do the level of magic that he was able to do. He also seemed to be aware of the immense power of good magic. If he were not, why would he fear the Crystal Heart enough to lock it away behind a series of complex traps and puzzles?

And then, the moment when he is about to be destroyed, understanding of his fate is shown plainly in his face.

So, then, why did he choose the path of hatred? Perhaps he thought he would be the one who would grow powerful enough to overcome light. Unfortunately for him, his endeavor was fruitless due to the inherent self-destructive nature of evil.

To look at MLP as a whole, I am very pleased with how it depicts good as inherently triumphant over evil. The show clearly depicts that there are challenges in life, and that we do encounter things that are frightening and unpleasant. However, if one sticks to that which is good, in the long run, all obstacles will be overcome in one way or another. This is an excellent message to be presented to children, and one that should be far more prevalent in a society where many people have chosen to give up, and turn to the easy answer: a pessimistic worldview.

Well, it's part of the show's concept, right? I like it because it supports the light hearted "nature" of the show.

Usually I'm more for balanced or "no one wins" endings, but that wouldn't fit in the show.

If it goes for ethics, I'm actually one of those who say "There is not the bad guy in general." Evil is subjective. But I can't apply that here. Well, I could, but it is not how it's presented in the show.

The best example would be Chrysalis. Was she "evil"? Most would say yes, but maybe they forget one thing. If Changelings need to feed of love to live, how can you estimate them as evil? They are a danger to poines, undoubtably. But the show can sadly not really go into that much more because of the concept. So we have to see equestrian morals as quite different from our own. And at the same time they are not. It's rather complicated the more you try to think about it.

So I just enjoy to see our heroes win. The plain old "good always wins" is highly improved by the fact that the chracters are really good as well as the dialogus. It's way better than every old Disney movie in terms of that. And it will most likely be always like that until the show ends.

But maybe there will be a change in that because on the panel at San Diego Comic Con, they said... ("SPOILERS" AHEAD)

...that they will do something in the show they've never done before but keep it "the same pony style." Since I can only think of changing something in the premise, letting the bad guys "win" is one of the possible options. But I don't necessarily hope that it will be that because it wouldn't feel that good as long as the show is how it is.

I think that the show depicts that when the good guys win, it shows that when the heroes are facing challenges it really analyzes on why the heroes do what they do and what the heroes will do against evil when everything is on the line. It definitely shows that even in a show, heroes can teach lessons to children and show the real life problems that happen in life.

I definitely like it, but I doubt there would be an episode where the bad guys win. For non-pony related movies, such as The Mist and Invasion of the Body Snatchers, I really liked the endings where the bad guys win.
