As Fire Horn was about to put the device on top of the pedestal, steel wires and harness along with cables suddenly emerged from the holes around the pedestal, "I didn't know about this..." Ink said with a surprised tone 

It apparently being hooked up automatically and Diane was projected out of the device afterwards; she gave a disturbing smile.

"What's the point anymore, Stephan." Missy said, saddened. "If we escape, what good will that do?" Grand said something, Missy pricked her ears up and decided to take the initiative. "You know what.  Just because i want to take revenge on that snobby little nut-case, let#s get back up there and I'll beat him up." Missy ran towards the light.

"I'll follow you up upon that. He pushed me down a hole with no real good reason, which deserves some punishment." He spoke back, following Missy. Afterward, Zeta looked back to the others and signaled for them to both follow behind, so they wouldn't get lost if they had to take any turns and such.

Grand followed behind, though she trailed a bit behind the group, " I hope they know what they're doing" she said, racing behind the others. She tried to listen for them abode her, but she couldn't hear a thing. She hasn't the slightest clue what firehorn and ink drop were trying to do

"But Missy is connect to Star Swirl, the one that this Shrine was dedicated to." Stephan reminded her. "Why would they send us plummeting if that was one of the most important aspects of getting this far? It doesn't make sense. We need to get up there and find out what's happening."

Without a second though, Stephan ran at sonic speeds ahead of the group towards the light and back into the shrine. There was no time to waste. He needed to get going.

Fire stepped back in horror, the device was pulled out of his hoof and was being connected, the projection of Diane appeared.
"Diane, what are you doing? Why are you doing this? What purpose are you really serving?" Fire asked angrily.

"Oh, I serve no purpose really, certainly not yours, your little friends unshackled me, so now i'm free to do what I wish, instead of what my "masters" wanted me to."

"Your master... Oh how could I be so blinded! So stupid, it was standing in front of me back there." Ink yelled out, bonking his head multiple times with his hoof, "the humans, they were making a bacterial strain, weaponizing Triple-E, and things turned against them." Ink went back, remembering the environment that surrounded him back at the cave; the items, the petri dishes, microscope, test tubes, a test subject, blood samples, automatic decontamination system, "your were trying to wipe us all out, and with the Shrine's help..." Ink faced Fire Horn with horror in his eyes, "The Shrine... it's human's..." 

 

((How I imagine Diane, well... just like the Siren/AI nurse from Doctor Who.))

Following behind, he had caught a glimpse of Stephan and watched as he completely surpassed the group. C'mon you little bastard! Don't leave all of us behind like that..

He started to fall back a little from Missy as well, getting next to Grand and let out a little sigh. "I just wish he could be a little less impatient and be more careful with himself. I don't want anything bad to happen to a good friend of mine, especially not now.."

"He just wants to stop anything those two might regret. We can all be a little headstrong at times" she said, running through the long tunnel. "I just hope nothing bad has happened, there must be a reason for them to have done that to us" she said, unwilling to believe it was for selfish reasons

Stephan slowed down and ran next to Zeta and Grand smirking. "I can't slow down now! Who knows what's going on in there??" Stephan said.

The group finally arrives at the inner sanctum, where Stephan sees Diane on a projector. "Diane, what are you doing? I command you to fall back and give me the device!"

"The humans were trying to kill off the equine race, but why would they do that?" Fire asked.

"I told them to. Everybody believed me, humans are really quite dumb when you think about it." Diane said menacingly. "Something went wrong though, the plague happened, wiping out every human, so i couldn't get a DNA sample, until now." Diane's projection turned red. "Now the plan proceeds, I can finally fulfill my purpose and get rid of you all." The machine began to whir, and beams started shooting out of it, hitting Fire and Ink.

"Ink! What do we do?" Fire shouted weakly.

 

Missy arrived along with the others, she began to glow.
"Fire! What's going on?!" Missy shouted, Fire turned to see her, he was now on the ground.

"Missy, get.....get out of.....here!" Fire said ,struggling in pain, the machine was sucking out their souls, their very being.

 

"Cease your interruptions, human! I am your superior now!" Diane started laughing diabolically as it started to attack the others.

"Wait, what? Who is this Diane you speak about Stephan?"

Grand looked helplessly as the machine attacked them. "Stop! They did nothing wrong, please! We only want to restore our world to some normalcy, you have no right to stop us!" She yelled at the machine, walking closer to it. "They don't deserve this. I don't know who you are, but you better let them go!"

Stephan looked at the projection and was shocked. It looks like Diane's AI had a mind of it's own now "That's not all important right now, Zeta." Stephan said. "All you need to know is that she is that red projection over there, and we need to take down the machine she's using." Stephan began running up to the machine. "You have one chance to stand down, Diane!"

Ink saw Stephan taking a few steps forwards nearing the device with Diane raising up her hand starting a energy-siphon, "No! Stephan! STAND BACK!" Ink leaped across the air, tackling Stephan out of harms way; sacrificing himself to be siphoned out of his own

 

"Ink! What do we do?" Fire shouted weakly.

 

"Cease your interruptions, human! I am your superior now!" Diane started laughing diabolically, but Fire started glowing and so did everypony else. "What? What is this?"

 

(Elements of Harmony, activate!)

Ink grunted in pain, "Everypony, get out!" he could see clearly, the others were starting to emit a powerful light and so did he.

 

Each and everypony there were emitting light and energy from their very spirit. A form of power greater than the Element of Harmony. Since everypony were bonded with each other, they were actually developing purity in their hearts.

 

"Missy!" Ink called out while still being siphoned, "You are the direct descendant... you know what to do!"

Grand looked helplessly as the machine attacked them. "Stop! They did nothing wrong, please! We only want to restore our world to some normalcy, you have no right to stop us!" "Grand stop! Don't get closer!" Zeta responded, pushing her back and ran to collide head on with the machine. If only I had my armor, it would of worked out so much better..

 

But the giant beast didn't exactly move, only a little but kept its attention focused away from everypony. "Guys, I got this!"

Grand looked down at herself with a confused expression. "What is going on? Why am I glowing?" She said, examining her hoof. She looked at ink with a sad expression as she sat next to him. "I-I don't know what to do, but I promise I'll make you feel better alright?" She said, trying to fund what was wrong with him

"Yes, I do know what to do!" Missy yelled as she started glowing, she ran up to the machine and looked at it triumphantly.

"You may have defeated the humans, but the humans had no clue what the potential of our kind was, and it seems you don't either!" Missy and the others began to float up into the air in a star formation. "You may have been able to control the magic of this land, used it for your own selfish needs, to wipe out those who gave you life!"

"What?! No, what are you doing?!" Diane yelled.
"But we can harness a magic so beyond anything you can control, my father before me did not understand it, and you cannot control it, the most powerful magic known to this world!" The light began to get stronger and brighter.

 

"The magic......of FRIENDSHIP!" Missy shouted.

 

The beams that were coming out of the machine broke off, a rainbow shot out of the group and funneled into the machine.
"No! This can't be happening, i can't fail!!!" Diane shouted.

 

The machine shot out a wave, a wave of rainbow, that shot out across the lands in an instant!

Stephan noticed that he was glowing, and so were the others. "Zeta, stop!" Stephan shouted to him. "Get over here. I think we're about to fix all of this." Stephan braced himself for whatever was about to happen. "Alright, Missy. Do your thing before this machine kills us all."

"You got it!" Zeta called out, walking back to Stephan before he watched as Missy took care of it all.

It was magnificient to see, the rainbows going out in all directions which had started to dramatically change everything. It looks like friendship really is the best thing in the world, and so he let everything go its way.

Wow.. I've never seen this before.

As the rainbow shot across the land, everything began to turn back to normal. They sky began to turn blue and bright again, the lands began to flow with strong trees and green grass again, and everything seemed alright. However, the ponies lost during the outbreak didn't return, unfortunately.

"Grand, who cared for all of us when we were injured, represents the spirit of...kindness!"

"Stephan, who didn't abandon his friends when they needed him most, represents the spirit of...loyalty!"

"Zeta, who would've given his life to save his friends, represents the spirit of...generosity!"

"Fire Horn, the love of my life, who would never lie to us, represents the spirit of....honesty!"

"Starburst, even though dead, he could always have fun, even in the worst of situations, represents the spirit of....laughter!"

"And....well, me....standing before all of my friends, uniting all of them, i represent the spirit of....magic!"

 

The land began to turn normal again, the sun shone in the sky.
Missy and the others floated back down to the ground.

He floated back down to the ground, landing softly on his hooves and gave a smile. But before he said anything, Zeta looked over to Grand and laughed.

"Cheesy ending isn't it? Anyway, we're all finished now so we can go back home. Tis a shame we might not see eachother again, especially you but.. It's okay."

Grand looked around with a bewildered expression. "The elements of... Harmony? How in equestria could we possess them when the original wielders are still alive?" She asked curiously, though she decided to put it out if her mind. " does this mean.... We have found the cure?"

As the others levitated back on the ground, Diane's hologram began to combust in on itself. However, while everypony was on the ground, Stephan was still in the air. The golden ball from when they originally arrived on the island formed around him again. He was going through another transformation.

The rainbow that spread across the land, all the trotters it touched, restored them to normal.

In Zecora's Hut, the trotter of Grand's sister was affected by this and returned to normal.

 

Missy walked up to Fire Horn, Missy slapped him.

"What was that for?" Fire asked.

"That was for being stupid and reckless!" Missy said angrily, then kissing him. "That was because I love you."
