Blast nodded. "I understand that if we don't do anything, ponies will die and we'll go down with them. This is a harsh planet that we know nothing about. We can't just sit here and do nothing." Blast then got back to the subject. "Anyways, we need to get a move on. Ponies might be dying out there."

"Not so fast speedy" Peppermint put a hoof on Blast's shoulder "Romula can charge you for desertion if you run off now"

 

Blast looked at Peppermint, unconvinced.

 

"She knows the rules off by heart. You go now, you're going to be treated as a hostile when you come back" Peppermint pulled out his datapad "Plus, you don't know where the other crash sites are. I do"

Blast had to admit that Peppermint made some points. He didn't want to be treated as a hostile, not after he's proven an ally to the branch. "Alright, Peppermint. I trust you. You know more about this branch than any other pony here. If I'm gonna find the crash sites, I'll need your help."

"And I will definitely need yours" Peppermint suddeny went quiet as a pair of fillies ran by.

"Im not allowed to leave either which is annoying. I would like to explore this planet too"

 

He got real close to Blast, his voice barely a whisper "That's why I want to arrange an 'accident' for Romula"

Blast smiled and nodded. "Well, good for you, Peppermint. You're deciding to step out of your shell and set out on an adventure." He made sure he said that in a quiet tone. He didn't want to draw anypony's attention. "Alright. Well, what kind of accident do you mean?"

"Romula is a tough pony, and can easily tell if she's being led to a trap. So we need to be 100% focused"

 

He pointed at a nearby house "If one of us sat up there with a sniper rifle, the other distracted her, we could take her out quick and easy. Once the deed is done, my rank will make me assume command and then I can help you"

Blast thought for a moment and nodded. "Sounds good. Here's what I was thinking." He whispered in Peppermint's ear. "Since I'm more about speed and you're a good marksman, you'll be the sniper. I'll tell her that the ponies from earlier have regrouped and tell her to come with me. As I'm "taking her to a safe place" I'll pass by the house. When I do, do your thing. Sound good?"

I'll tell her that the ponies from earlier have regrouped and tell her to come with me. As I'm "taking her to a safe place" I'll pass by the house. When I do, do your thing. Sound good?"

"Excellent" Peppermint handed an earpiece to Blast "Just pop that in your ear, that way I can talk to you"

 

He looked around one more time just in case he was being watched. Peppermint then started to walk off.

 

"Im going to need 20 minutes to prepare. You should be ready by then"

"Copy" Twenty minutes later, Blast ran up to the shack where Violet and Romula were in and he was panting like he was out of breath. "Romula... those ponies from earlier... they've regrouped, and they're back... we need to get you to a safe place."

"There's more of them?" Romula went for her rifle "Violet, I'll be back in a moment"

 

Blast led Romula to the killzone, when suddenly his earpiece came alive.

"Blast, I've got a couple of ponies walking by your scene, I'm going to hold fire for the time being until they're gone. Try to keep Romula distracted. Over"

"damn it" Blast thought. He then had an idea. "Romula. There's a lazer sight on the back of your head." He then sees a dark, shadowy spot. "Over there." Blast took off in a blur into the shadowed area. "Alright. Peppermint knows they're here. He'll take him out real quick"

"What the-?" Romula gasped, aiming her gun at the shadow

 

During the distraction, the ponies passed by. Peppermint took aim again, the laser dot resting on Romula's head.

 

*Bang!*

 

Just as she turned round, Romula suddenly fell sideways, a splatter of blood hitting the wall.

 

"Alright Blast, come over to where I am. Make sure no pony sees you" Peppermint said

Blast was shocked. He didn't know that Peppermint would shoot Romula in the head. He thought that he was just going to shoot he legs. Regardless, he ran out of the shadow from behind the building he was hiding in and went back to Peppermint. "What was that, man?? You probably killed her!" Blast whispered.

"Extreme, but necessary" Peppermint said coldly, he slung the rifle onto his back "This place would have gone downhill with Romula leading us. I think it's best if we-"

 

A scream echoed throughout the area. Blast and Peppermint looked over and saw a couple of ponies crowding around the body.

 

"Romula's been shot!"

 

"From who?"

 

"How do I know?"

 

"Is she alive?"

 

"I can't tell"

 

Peppermint looked back at Blast "Give me ten minutes to sort this out, then meet me outside the base and we'll go look for more survivors"

Blast stood there for a few moments, feeling a cold shock running down his back. He couldn't believe what he just partook in. All he could think about is if Romula was still alive. He prayed to Celestia that she was. He then jumped down from the sniping post.

A moment later, Peppermint met up with Blast.

 

"Right, I just found out that Romula survived. Despite having a good chunk of her face and eye blown off. She's most likely going to have brain damage, but we won't know till she wakes up" Peppermint pulled out his datapad

"Now, I managed to get this location of another crash site, it's 20 miles to the West" He looked at Blast "Is something wrong? You seem troubled"

Blast regained his focus and looked at Peppermint. "I just can't believe you shot her in the head. I thought you'd shoot her in the leg or something like that." He slowly took the tracker and looked at it for a few seconds. "Twenty miles? No sweat. I'll get there in a few seconds."

"No point in worrying about it now, what's done is done. Which means I'm charge" Peppermint said "But I let Slavik sort out the community whilst we're away. I'd like to come with you, it would make negotiations easier if we both went"

 

He put his hoof on Blast's shoulder "Uhh... How tight do I have to hold on? I know you can go quite fast"

"As tight as you can. I'll make sure that I run at a pace that's fast enough for you not to fall off." Blast got in his running position and prepared to blast off. "Hold on to your mane!" Blast then jetted off into the desert with Peppermint. In a mere 10 seconds, they went twenty miles to the west and Blast screeched to a halt.

Peppermint readjusted his hair "And I thought the crash landing was bad..."

 

The crash site was similar to the last one, although with a different part of the ship lodged into the ground. The duo looked around.

 

"A camp fire... Some pony has been here recently"

Blast noticed that a whole camp was set up here. The tent, the fire, everything you'd have at camp was there. However, raw foods to cook or eat were lacking. "He probably went out to find some more stuff to munch on. What should we do? Should we wait for him to return?"

"Sounds like a plan" Peppermint said "Just do a quick check on the equipment they have, we might want to be careful if these ponies are armed"

 

Peppermint looked over under a large metal shack, it had four sleep mats in it. That means that there are at least 4 ponies living here.

Blast looked around the shack for a little bit. He saw a slightly opened wooden chest. He trotted over to it and opened it up all the way. In it lied a few magnum hand guns. "Guess these guys wanted to be prepared for anything. We should be careful once they get back."

Peppermint looked over and saw the guns.

"Damn, you're right. What concerns me though is the fact it was open in the first-"

 

"Hold it right there!"

 

The duo turned around and saw three ponies, aiming guns at them. The big one, a large white stallion, spoke again.

"Don't try anything stupid now, I'd rather this end peacefully"

Blast closed the chest. He walked up to the stallion and tried to explain. "Easy, pal. We're Blasted Nova and Peppermint. We're with the Equestrian Marines core. Well, he is, anyways. We're out in the desert looking for survivors. If you would just lower your weapons, we can take you back to the base."

The stallion thinks this over for a moment and then lowers his gun

"Oh damn, I'm glad to see friendlies. I'm in the marines too! I'm corporal Punch. This here is Dr. Little" He motions over to a small grey stallion "And this is Private Burns" He points at an orange mare

 

"Do you think they can help us?" Burns asks

 

"We just met these guys, we'll ask them later" Punch replied
