I have a question for you all!

 

I've read that many people say "don't tie your OC to a canon character, etc," Stay with me, here.

 

I was wondering what you, my fellow Pegasisters and Bronies, would say if a character was tied to a character, but had sufficient backstory? As a writer, I am certain that I can make many things believable, but this fandom is a bit tricky sometimes.

 

This is his outline. I'm a bit leery over sharing complete ideas, as I've had my concepts stolen before, no offense to any of you.

 

-Not a pony, but a 'horse,' draft-y and bigger than Big Mac, shorter than Celestia

-Not immortal, but was sentenced to live one thousand years, in time with Luna's banishment.

-Fell in love with Luna, but the feeling was not mutual. (He was royally friendzoned)

-Can't set his hooves in any lit area for punishment reasons.

 

Sorry it's so vague, but I do need some help with this.

I think you're talking about those Saddle Arabia horse things, and I guess that's fine; it's original.

Well, first off, if he wasn't immortal, he would probably die if he was sentenced for one thousand years. It seems kind of odd and unlikely. Also, Celestia doesn't just go around banishing ponies to the moon; it is a last resort solution to a dire problem. So, your pony must be have done something equal to turning evil, and threatening to bring eternal night to Equestria for it to make sense. Also, it would have to be at the same time Luna was banished which is was a time Princess Celestia probably was too busy dealing with Luna to worry about banishing horses.

Even though they aren't in a romantic relationship, friendships between OCs and major canon characters, especially a popular one like Luna, are generally frowned upon, but I guess since they are the only ones on the moon; it makes sense for them to become friends. However, you still need a good reason for him to be banished to the moon.

Now, Princess Celestia wouldn't do something like this. It just isn't her character. Unless you have a really good reason for this, I think it would be frowned upon by others. Banishing the moon is bad enough; making him not be able to set hoof in lit areas in just plain overkill.

I think Blue Moon summed it up pretty nicely. Probably couldn't have said it better than that. And you made it a point that people don't like when OCs are tied in with other canon characters unless it's written well, and the reason for him being tied to Luna isn't very well thought out anyway. Also, he wouldn't be there with Luna, he would be there with Nightmare Moon, remember? She came back as NMM, which means her whole stay on the moon she was NMM. Very many plot holes and problems with this.

He isn't on the moon, my bad if I didn't clear that up. His punishment is to not set hoof in light for one thousand years. Ugh, I'll just post a few pieces when it's finished, this sounds incredibly dumb when I try to explain it.
