It's jsut a harmless poll. With some fun questions, to give you more votes, to go along with it. Just keep calm and vote Fluttershy.

...wait, what?

EquestriaDaily alone has "favorite/least favorite character" polls all the time. A poll isn't going to divide the fandom; it simply shows what percentage of the group likes a certain pony.

To think that this is some master plan by Hasbro is silly. Don't worry, and vote Rarity.

Oops, I really hate to point this out, but you really spelled Twilight way wrong back there.

B)

Seriously, Hasbro isn't the evil mastermind a lot of bronies think they are. I think the powers that be at Hasbro just don't know what to do about bronies. It's such a volatile group that they can never be sure how bronies will react to anything.

Plus I think their marketing group is a bit confused in general with shifting gender-identity roles in modern and international culture. According to financial documents released as part of their stockholder prospectus, the company itself is still organized into the 'boy'/'girl' divisions from back in the 60's, with 'games' and other things they acquired later being their own divisions. My understanding is that the corporate culture there is very entrenched along those division lines and crossing them is a serious struggle. There was a big to-do inside the company when recently they put out a 'Easy-Bake Oven' with gender-neutral packaging (which they only did thanks to a lawsuit).

However, I'm noticing that retailers are starting to respond to this kind of thing. The Target near me has actually put up a 'purple aisle', right between the pink aisles and the blue aisles, that has toys that are crossing gender lines. And they've put MLP into the purple aisle, along with a selection of Lego stuff and other things.

-_- I totally forgot to vote the last couple days or so the polls were open. If Fluttershy loses by only a handful of votes I'll never forgive myself.... at least not till the next pony poll. Oh well, we'll find out in a couple hours.

Oh, the fandom does way too good of a job dividing itself for Hasbro to need to do much of anything, provided it even had motivation to concoct some kind of diabolical plot to cause feuding and drama for whatever reason. The higher ups there may have more say in how things go in the show, but whether or not we pick at each other for hours because a pony sprouted a pair of wings/arms or because we think this pony is better than that one, is on us.
