Adente 1,000 August 30, 2013 Share August 30, 2013 'Sup MLPForums! So, I am looking to get a little bit of help with my main OC, Windy Runner. I always thought of him as a good OC, and good for RP's. However, as of late, I've been being denied from a few (I think its only like 2, but whatever, I guess that's 2 too many for me) RP's when trying to use him. I'd like to ask you, the forum members, why. Now, if you don't want to read his whole character description page, I totally get that, so here's the condensed version. Personality: Good friend, overall nice guy, but with a tendency to think a little too highly of himself and view himself as superior to other ponies. Has a slight arrogant complex. Views pegasi as better than other pony races, simply because they can fly. Obsessed with coming off in the right light to his peers, and seeming 'cool' constantly. Refuses to show weakness or vulnerability, such as crying. Wants to avoid being a generic 'nice stallion'. His arrogance prevents him from admitting he is wrong or backing down, which has led to him getting his flank handed to him on occasion. Secretly doesn't have the best self-esteem; the arrogance is a front to hide this. Backstory: Nothing tragic or angsty, just raised by two loving parents and wanted to play soccer. Injured his head trying out for his favorite pro team, the Cloudsdale Cavaliers, putting his dream on hold temporarily. So, the question becomes, what are the flaws with Windy as a character, and what would you suggest to fix 'em? My personal theory is that Windy is too bland. However, I can't think of a way to fundamentally change him without making him unnecessarily angsty or whiny. I refuse to give him a tragic backstory or make him bemoan bad things that happened to him in the past. Equestria is the land of freaking magical technicolor ponies, and a tragic backstory like being an orphan or having abusive parents just doesn't seem right in a place like that. Inactive01 5,299 August 30, 2013 Share August 30, 2013 I can do a whole review of your OC if you want. You can just search for my OC evaluation thread. I like to clump all of my reviews there. But... I would really love it if you could show your whole backstory. You have to discuss how one gets their cutie mark, how their history relates to them as a character today, and also provide room to develop your character in future roleplays. If all three are prevalent, then you have a successful OC. As for personality, they must be really well linked with your OC's backstory. You have to be able to understand how the pony got their traits and also make it convincing that they would have this trait provided their backstory. That would be my summary of your OC based on your description.
Forlong 1,726 September 1, 2013 Share September 1, 2013 I think Professor Dumbledore can give appropriate advice regarding this: "If you are holding out for universal popularity, I'm afraid you'll be waiting for a long time. Not a week has passed since I became headmaster of this school when I haven't had at least one owl complaining about the way I run it." Paraphrased a bit, but you get the point. 2 people expressed dislike for your OC, but how many said they liked him? I can't make an assessment without all the variables.
